Yep.  Tom nailed it.  In photo 12 you'll see the pressure pumps.

Re:  Photo 174_011  Steering arms

Freud:
While it is not entirely clear how these arms are actually used, if it is the way I suspect, the small cross-section of material left between the edge of the arm and the more central set of three holes gives me pause.  The hole creates something of a stress concentration in the area and there is not all that much material thickness there to begin with.  While it may be OK for static loading, if a fairly energetic wheel shimmy occurs and/or corrosion in the hole, a potential loss of steering could be bad news.  Perhaps something to double-check.

Oh my god!
Picture 174-14
IS THAT A SCRATCH!!
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

Stan Back........close but no cigar. It's a white felt tip pen mark.

I'll have them send it back to the finisher and get it redone.

I O..... you shouted wolf once too often.

Hold your tongue.

Take a month off from checking the posts.

Come back after Stan Back gets his record back on the dirt.

Freud:

Maybe everyone knows this but me. In photo 173_01 what is the black box in the center of the frame that has the plug-in that appears to have a lanyard attached? I cannot decide what that is.

FREUD: looks to me like Jim is chasing his own record at the Dry Lake.
Alas, there was no "El Mirage horsepower" available in May . . .

Thanks for advising me.....I need it.

Apparently he has alienated the horsepower gods.

At least he didn't have to develop any new skills to do it.

Bill the plug with the string is the manual kill switch for the mag.  If that is in place the engine can not be fired.

Orville and Wilber are the cockpit controls to pneumatically kill the engines.

I'll find an image and show how it is plumbed.

Thanks for asking.

Freud:

I missed that little jewel of fabrication on my prior review. Thank you Doctor for taking the time to leave me so many hints where I could find the answer to my question. A few posts ago a gentleman referred to this build as a "master piece" and I believe that to be true. Everytime I think I have seen all the details another stroke of fabrication genius pops up. But not for yours and Ray's dedication I would have no access to such a great build. Please let Ray know as well. The work is greatly appreciated by us loyal Target 550 watchers.
