I received replies from Marlo and Dave regarding the collars.

Heads pointing opposite direction was discussed after the present ones were made. Nothing is final at this point.
Thanks for the input.
Dave

Marlo was going out the door to go to El Mirage this afternoon. His short answer was:

"the bolt shank extends far enough to offset the weight of the head."

I know there will be more discussion regarding your question.

Thanks again for asking.

Well this weekend is the last of my out of town adventures so the Target550.com post

will be delayed a few days. I am going to Las Vegas to attend the AMA Hall of Fame

induction for Phil Schilling. He was the editor of  CYCLE Magazine when Cook Neilson left.

He was also the main builder of  "OLD BLUE", the Ducati twin that dusted off the 4 cylinder rice burners

in the 1976 Daytona bike race.

I have the images for the post. I just need to arrange them and get them to Ray Therat.

Thanks for your patience.

Take your time with the post, it can wait, plenty of time for that later.

Have a safe trip and enjoy the induction, a once in a lifetime event for all concerned.

Got your PM's, thanks for the replies, helps keep my memory straight and the Barber has been moved up on my destination list.

Even though Freud's in Las Vegas, he looked in his spy camera (I'd tell ya what it is, but I'm sworn to secrecy  :-D ) and found some images of additional work on the canopy windshield frame/molding:

This shot seems to validate the concept that you can never have too many tools:

Although the post is a short one, there's a little more visual documentation of the projects progress.

Big thanks to Freud for putting this together and getting it to me from his hotel room.

We will have a new post FRIDAY.

It's about the canopy and the windshield fit.

Here is a detailed look at the pieces and the assembly of the windshield frame and canopy.

In my opinion, it's amazing.

My guess is 4 to 500 hours to hand make the canopy. There is a lot of making templates and sample pieces and close fitting. Mastercraftsman for sure.

I'm gonna take a tin knocking class one of these days and I feel I already have an edge on the rest of the class just from watching this build!

[Plus that peened ashtray I built in high school shop class!  :-D]

Not enough thanks are possible to Ray & Freud and the crew for the pixs and for sharing this incredible project!

We all should have bought Cleco stock at the start of this project!  :-D

Thanks Woody.  As I drive up to Hume's I too am wondering what they have done since my last visit.

I grew up in a machine shop and I started in there when I was 7 - 8 years old. That background has

made it exciting to watch this project.

It is amazing and the end is in sight.  There will always be "one more thing" to do but it is sure a lot

closer to being done that it was even a year ago.  Jason has made real progress on the rear wheel

fairings and it won't be long until they go to Frank Martinez to be duped in a composite.

I'll try to make certain that it's all presented in this diary.

THANKS for your comments.

Tman  canopy has been a long time in the making. In order to keep the proper shape, Hume built a jig a long time ago.

AS long as the piece was being massaged it was held in that jig. They knew from the beginning that the center would be removed

but it mattered not. It was finished to keep the flow of the piece proper. I can imagine Hume's thoughts as he started to cut out

the windshield section. The support frame for the canopy was done to the same standards. One of several of my favorite pieces

is the external/internal canopy release. It is so clever.

Now that the canopy lift cyl is all hooked up and working, I will do a short video to show how it works. At first it elevated properly

but it stopped to abruptly and would rebound. That has all be taken care of and one touch of the switch opens it immediately.

The canopy has such smooth curves that it is enjoyable to look at. Now with the windshield available it takes on a new dimension.

With over half a decade in the making and more to go, I can only keep my fingers crossed that the car's actually going to make it to Bonneville before they have to adjust their "project mission" as stated on their web page - and embark on a whole new round of fabricating to keep up with the quickly raising speeds we are seeing . . . .
