Keep in mind that on Marlo's car dual blower belts couple the transmission output shaft to the intermemiate shaft and vice versa to the front differential if they run the front engine only.  They can also drive the rear differential using this same intermemiate shaft.
This may or may not dampen the "hit" at a gear change.
The rear motor is a different story.
It's transmission drives thru a belt coupler directly to the rear end and so lack's the possible benifits (?) of the blower belt coupling.
The coupler allows the intermemiate shaft to drive the rear differential with or without a rear motor.
This is a lot easier to understand if you have a blueprint in front of you like I do!   :-D

I would be interested in hearing opinions on how the Target 550 drive train is going to survive when the single engine Speed Demon has had documented difficulties.

How does one compare an apple to an orange............
but they are both fruit.

Two streamliners...........
that share nothing in common..........
except for the goal.........
to be the fastest........

The Gilmer belt drive(S) trouble me on Hume's 'iner

Not having a "BLUEPRINT IN FRONT OF ME" I worry about cantilevred(sp?) loads on the drive drain. Others have experienced that problem in more lightly loaded applications where the belts got throwed off.

The belts worked just fine on the Turbinator.

Well it's still Friday on the Left Coast and our post is on Target550.com

Have a look at the idler for the blower belts and the nose of the rear wheel fairings.

Freud, which does Jim Hume use, tig or oxy/acetylene, to weld up the aluminum panels?

Lost this first time. Stepping on Frued's reply, sorry.

Hume uses Oxygen and possibly Hydrogen but at least Acetylene.

His welds are so consistent and smooth they look like decals.

Some of the Top Fuel/ Funny Car pro builders buy tanks from Hume.

He engraves grapes and vines on them if you' re at the drags and checking.

No post today. Probably Saturday.

I'm at Barber's Motorsport Park in Alabama.

Great weather and a magnificent event featuring Ducati motorcycles.

I would but it is in a crate of 2-300 magazines I went threough last week  I need to get some stuff done instead of reading all those things again! But, don't fear, I go on a reading binge about once a month and will see it soon. All I can say is Marlo was nuts in his early years!
