Matt....we appreciate your comments.  It was a long time ago but you sure were there earlier.

I'm so happy that you are returning to B'ville.

I'm looking forward to seeing you again.

See you soon.

Not surprising.
Infrared thermometers are calibrated against a white calibration target. Color and surface texture strongly affect the reading. Some can be re-calibrated against a reference target that is a different color value. If you want accuracy you need a contact thermocouple.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.

Thank You Dean. Frank may know that but I didn't and I didn't ask any questions.

Bad fotog.  Misinformation a specialty.

Dean;

IR thermometers are calibrated against a BLACK target. They measure energy that is radiated from a hot surface; the amount of energy depends on the absolute temperature of the surface and on its emissivity. A perfect (emissivity = 1.0) IR emitter is called a "blackbody radiator".

It helps to spray a spot with flat black paint so that its emissivity is closer to 1.0. This way the measured temperature is closer to being correct. Professional IR non-contact temp measurement guns have an adjustable "emissivity" knob which corrects the reading.

Neil, I also Thank You.

It's people like You and Dean that make this so much fun.

I just won't remember what you said.

Once an acceptable temp is achieved and that measurement is used from then on, it matters not that it is properly calibrated.

In photography unconventional exposure readings are valid as long as the same conditions exist each time it is metered.

It could be the same in this situation.

D A M N E D the theory as long as it works.

Thanks Neil. I knew that. My sister used to tell me to engage brain before thinking. Shhhh! I'm also doing this at work while I'm doing other things.

The company I worked for was trying to determine the temperature of an aluminum wheel to flow form it. Differences in heat treat color made a huge difference in the temperature reading. We switched to a contact probe. The amount of torn and cracked wheels went down dramatically.

My eyes have turned to an acute awareness of fashion. It's difficult to find good examples in my

circle of friends so I used what was available.

Enjoy a trip through the past on the Treit & Davenport Target550 streamliner.

It's not in chronological order but it shows many different looks. There are 177 fotos.

Another Friday. Another post.

http://www.target550.com/gallery/121_inside_plumbing_for_dual_clutch_cylinders/index.html

This relates to the shifter for the transmissions and clutch master cyl plumbing.

If you want to follow the schematic, it is posted. Enlarge it and it's easier to read.

I have posted very little lately that related to the work that Jason Hosking has been doing.

I remedied that today. Have a look at his craftsmanship and how even Mother Nature has

sent a representative to survey the situation.

Here is the url:   http://www.target550.com/gallery/122_jason_&_arachnoid/index.html

Have fun.
