I went to Granite Falls HS, Granite Falls, WA., Friday for the end of the year open house.
The two cars that they have built, Iron Maiden and Philippe's Revenge, were on display along with art objects and pictures that other students had done.
Both cars are being readied for a trip to the Pac Car test track to gather data that will be compared to other tests.
The Urban Concept car will be tested at WOS and they will be interested in fuel mileage and not speed.
it's a marvelous program and their teacher, Michael Werner, deserves so much credit.
I'll try to give more info after the Pac Car testing.

The GFHS builds are real cool. All I got to do in high school shop was rebuild a 3.5 briggs, and make an engine stand?
Good times, High School was alot of fun. I still use that engine stand, there is a 62 4-cyl Pontiac on it right now.

Frued,
With the "steering wheel" being pretty small, how about a post on the actual steering system itself? I know that the plan is some sort of hydraulic "master/slave" set up but is there going to be any power booster to help the driver with the steering loads?

Rex, I'll address your question soon. In the immediate past was the adventure with Rufus: the Target 550 press vehicle. Monday Rufus received a new steering box. Now it's Tuesday and the steering box is in the recycle bin. Oh well......I can always arrange a rope between the front wheels. Check it out. http://www.target550.com/news.htmlFREUD |

Wow, great work, nice photos! The oven reminds me of a company that used to make our road racing fairing bubbles in So Cal. The company was Orco near Irvine and they used a "hanging sheet" oven that allowed the sheet to evenly heat up so that the bubbles could be free formed without chilling the material by vacuuming the sheet into a vacuum box so the bubbles came our almost optically perfect. The hanging sheet ovens did not take so much floor space and were heated by circulating the hot air inside the oven. A good 36 page manual about making the ovens and forming the sheet are at: http://regalplastics.net/pdf/135.pdfPretty cool stuff. It ain't easy to make those complex windscreens on a form.
