Cold Country?  Freud, are you planning to visit Nancy?  If so, will you stick around long enough to spend a few minutes with me, too?

Just seeing Nancy may sap my energy.

If so, please be as close as 911 and help me on my way.

Actually I was planning to go back to Hume's shop and they had 13" of new snow.

Think Nancy will be there so I can see her?

Freud, Since you invited the Questions. A long time ago on this build I noticed they are using 5 hole wheels and 5 lug hubs. I was surprised they didn't use 8 lugs with heavier hubs and wheels.

Freud,
I was thinking about the weght and speed.
I thought that the Golden Rod car used a heavy truck hub. Not sure of the stud count.

Richard, I went straight to Marlo regarding your question. Here is his reply.

What you don't see is the final product.  The lug nut has a built in washer about 1.250" in diameter and the lug nuts go over a retainer ring that applies the load all the way around.  The wheels are not lug nut centered, the wheel is hub centered and the lug nuts are not tapered.  We felt that with the fasteners/washered and the wheels hub centered there was plenty of load capability.  The current fuel dragsters use a 5 x 5.5 bolt pattern and a lug nut with washer on an aluminum wheel and most generally they are NOT hub centered.  And, they do have some real loads. Our wheel is also centered on the bearing so there is no static side load and the front end is king pin angle centered so there is NO scrub when the wheel/tire is deflected.
Thanks for the question.  I hope that answers it well enough.

Your question was appreciated and everyone benefits from the explanation.

Holy cow Freud, if you keep coming up with answers like that we're going to have to catalogue them and call it " The complete Book of Bonneville Race Car Building Knowledge" as told to Freud. Then make a list of credits from everyone that has contributed on this site over the years. Probably be enough for 500 pages just from Marlo. LOL

Getting Ray Therat out of his home area drove him to the floor. He decided to do a Rats Eye View and took a down under approach to

his fotos. He has done this new post and will also do the one for next week.

Have a look at his contribution:

We are in Boeing country and in the past Clecos were as abundant at the surplus store as cops are

at the Friday Peanut Night at the local tav.

They seems to have dialed the surplus store back but Hume won't run out of fasteners.

Ray,

Sounds like you got to do the dirty work. FrEuD owes you big time for that. Thanks for your effort.

Thanks, Tom.  I thought about this shoot well before doing it...and I decided that if a rat was a-gonna do it, he might as well do it from rat level.  It was actually kinda fun, crawlin around on the floor and seein stuff from a different angle.

Over the last 2 daze (and daze is appropriate for the state I'm in) I've been shooting the local version of the Autorama.  First day I did a LOTTA low-level shots...which was the equivalent of several hundred deep knee  bends and several miles of walking.  Today I took the tripod and found that my knees and hips were so stiff from the previous day's fun and games that when I DID have to get down to a kneeling position, I considered calling 911 to help me get back up.  ("I've kneeled down and I can't get up!")

This is just the first stage in my annual training for the salt.  I've gotten fat and way outta shape over the winter, so I'm beginning my "rehab" so that I can survive the rigors of LSR photography (and if all the stars and planets line up, racing a different car in the 130 Club at WoS).  I've gotta lose 40 or so pounds so I can fit into my firesuit...or buy a new one.  Kind of a strange position to be in for a guy who couldn't (try as I might) get over 125 lbs until I hit the age of 40.  Now I'm tryin to get back down to 150.

The "Rat's Eye View" thing was helpful in that respect.  But I'm gonna need a day's bedrest after the last coupla days behind the camera.

Stay tuned for the next installment of the "rat's eye view." This one will assume a bipedal rat, cuz I shot most of 'em from a kneeling position.  Yep, more deep knee bends.  I think you'll like the next post, tho.

I'm exhausted, so I'm just gonna say, "G'nite."
