I spose I otta mention that there's a new update on the liner build diary.  It's titled, "Canopy Opener and Shift Control Unit,"  both of which are pretty interesting.  The shift control unit was built by Les Davenport and is a pretty slick piece.

There is a shifter control update on Target 550. You can see it at http://www.target550.com/gallery/29_shifter_control_unit/index.html

Has Marlo thought about replacing those plastic lines with steel braided?  I remember the last few years at Speed Week there was more than one car that broke those plastic lines or had them come off  on the air logic units.  Tony

I wish I could tell you something about the plastic lines and steel braiding, but I know this has been read by those in position to bring it up to the rest of the team.

Moving right along, this is what I just posted to a couple of other sites:

The Target 550 site has been updated again.  We try to do that every week, but this one got delayed a bit.
Today's release is a bit of a look back over the project to the time when the wooden model was being built for the wind tunnel and hits a few more highlights...like the visit to the shop by the young women from a manufacturing class at Granite High in Seattle...and a bit about their story making the front page of the Everett, Wa newspaper.  Pretty kool.

Thanks for the updates Rat, you too Freud always great stuff. For the new people look up the web site and see eleven years of building a car for going after the world record. Great story.

I'll make certain that the plastic tube issue is discussed.

Thanks for the "heads up."

This is Marlo's reply regarding the tubing:

The tubing is not plastic, it is Teflon and Les uses it on the dyno and on cars that he has had and worked on.  It comes from the oil fields there and I would agree, braided stainless would look better, but it has a neoprene lining that will not take as much heat as the Teflon.

I assure you, this will not be overlooked.  Thanks for taking our back.

On the Vesco #444 streamliner we built a aluminum box to shield the air lines from the control to the trans. Everything we could shield is covered. Fire sleeves are used electrical and on other hoses etc. Everything we can protect with heat shields is added and the headers are wrapped. Know Marlo as the car nears that stage all of this will be covered in the final assembly.

When one starts to cheat the air flow the payback is lots of retained heat the we are the owner of fried plug wires in side duble insulation  this year due to header covers---lol  next year custom plug wires from up above for a try  :-D

The exhaust headers are close to the fiberglass body and we have to protect it. There is still some air flow and we have fire sleeves on the plug wires as well.

The exhaust pipes on Target550 are double walled and they exit thru aluminum.
