Asking questions is one's only way of getting answers. As a young boy I was always taught that there is no such thing as a stupid question. It suggests that the quest for knowledge includes failure, and that just because one person may know less than others they should not be afraid to ask rather than pretend they already know. In many cases multiple people may not know but are too afraid to ask the "stupid question"; the one who asks the question may in fact be doing a service to those around them.

Freud, let me "consult" with you on recording the sound. I spent some time at the National Center for Audio Experimentation and learned tons of stuff - some of which could enhance the sound of passing race vehicles about a zillion fold. It's surprisingly easy -- it's called binaural sound. It's cool stuff. Jon, only us old guys know what "binaural sound" is. Cook Labs even produced vinyl LP records with twin tracks that needed two tone arms & phono cartridges to play back. It was the "virtual reality" of audio. Regards, Neil Tucson, AZ

Wow. I've never heard that story before. I had the college shop (I was working at WGGL-FM in Hoton then) build me a special mike stand adapter that held two cardioid mikes, patterns facing mostly away from each other (somewhat ahead of perp to direction you wanna hear), with a styrofoam dummy head between 'em -- to simulate (all too well) the human head between the ears. Listening back in headphones was required to get the best sound -- but it was eerie how much extra stuff you could hear and sense. it'd do wonoders for Bville sonds -- even the short tracks. But the "gotta wear earphones" is a non-starter for popular consumption.

Yes, Jon- that's the same way Emory Cook recorded his direct-to-disc recordings.

Maybe these just prior discussions were prompted by the
sound of Treit and Davenport's 'liner as it passed.
Even George Poteet likes the sound of our car. There
have been statements regarding the syncing of the engines.
It is impossible. These engines are not solidly connected in
any manner. It would be possible if the engines were tied
together with a chain or a solid shaft. How can a synchronization
occur when they are started separately? The rear engine is
running when the front engine is dead still. With clutches between
the engines it is impossible to sync them.
The unique sound just happens when 16 cylinders are working
together.
Yep, the sound as the car passes can be recorded and manipulated
but there is no mechanical way we can change the sound
except dump nitro to them and that is not in the plans. Brief bursts
of 61% throttle occurred during the last run. There was more 40% -50%
than any other setting. Traction was the problem. 100% throttle
may change the volume. If You want the full benefit just stand on
the down wind side as it passes. This car was not designed for nitro.
First thing is it doesn't carry enough fuel.
A cockpit AC unit comes before bigger fuel tanks.
Now that it has been mentioned, Les Davenport may do it.

The challenge now is to see if the new chutes that are to arrive today will fit in the tubes.
This will have to be known before the WoS trip.
Marlo intends to run WOS just to test the new chutes. Even a short course
will allow 300+ MPH and that is adequate to evaluate the chute characteristics.
Of course there is always the possibility that unexpected learning will occur.

A new (that is to say, "new to us") video has been posted on the Target 550 YouTube channel. Matthew Sanders of Phlewid Films made a video during the extensive photo session done in January 2014, and we have received permission to post it on our channel. Ryan
