Thanks for all the info, I will begin my research.

Yes the Vicky finally went over 150.... in a hot humid headwind to boot...

The Stude will be the Full Time Go fast car when it is done.. I will use the last years "E" motor in it to start, then have the option to bump up the HP in the Vicky's current "C" motor (pump gas street motor) and use it in the Stude if I want to run "C" class motor,,,

The Flat head would just look COOL in the Vicky and allow me to Run Vintage

Charles --

A few thoughts here . . .

The XF/VGALT record is 142+ at El Mirage -- similar to the speed of your E motor at Maxton.  I'm sure the HP is a lot less, but not a whole lot.  And a flathead of that caliber would surely not make a good occasional street motor.

If you've priced flathead parts, you've already found a big difference from SBC parts.  Flatheads look great, but they can look great with streetable parts -- perhaps racing the flatmotor isn't the best choice.  The coots racing them have been doing it for years and aren't pushovers.

Charles,

IMO a blown flathead is more affordable than an unblown one. It takes years of R&D to get a normally aspirated Flathead to make any serious HP. On the other hand a Blown Flathead will make pretty good HP from the start. Just remember to use aftermarket parts when it come to pistons and rods.

Imagine how fast he'd be with a flathead V-8 instead of that four!

Stan,,, I do see your point...  After the Stude is done... the Vicky may undergo some changes...

One FYI--  the "E" motor never saw near it's potential at Maxton, I bumped the records up  18, 20 and 21 mph in the 3 classes I ran and set records in.

Vicky was tech'd to 135 when I set the first record, then after I resolved a few concerns it tech'd to 150 and I set the other records...

The flathead idea was to be able to run vintage (also a flatty would fit the Vicky's look, image and persona)

Tom G,,, all of my motors use after market pistons, rods, cranks,,, etc... I understand what you are saying and that would be the plan.

Thanks

You might want to check in with some of those that run Maxton from the East Coast Flathead Ford Racing Association.  We had an interesting short conversation with them late Sat afternoon, more machinery there than first meets the eye, nice folks.
