Thundersalt gets new hardware
« on: June 28, 2009, 12:03:58 PM »
I had an interesting day yesterday. I had what I was hoping to be minor surgery to clean out my left shoulder joint which had some bone spurs from years of over use. When I woke up I found out that I now have a new steel ball at the top of my humerus (upper arm bone) and shaved my glenoid (socket). My Doctor said I should be OK to drive by august. If not I guess Celia will see a lot of seat time.
I posted this (as I am totally loaded on percocet and morphine sulfate) to see if any of you guys have had this done and what to expect. Like I said, my Dr. seems to think everything will be fine but would like to here from someone that has had it done.
Brian

P.S. please excuse the miss spells and babbling.

Heal fast and do all of the PT. It takes time and yes you will be sore, lose sleep and say a few dirty words along the way. Hang in there. Hope you can start driving in August.

My dad had that done years ago and he said he should have had the other one done.  He feels great and does 100 pushups every morning.  He is 91 years old.  I told him to knock that off.  Rotavating the garden is enough exercise.

I agree most of us a lot younger than 90 could never do that!

Brian it's going to take a lot of hard work in the PT room to get healed up in time.  Seems like at least a couple weeks of rest and then PT.  One month seems a little quick, hope you heal up fast and get behind the wheel.  Good luck.

Thanks all. Feeling a little better today. Celia has had me in the gym with a trainer the last 4 months to do strength training so hopefully the rehab will be faster. My bone Dr. knows what I'm getting ready for. When I walked into his office the first time I see he has a poster of Rocky and Ack Attack on his wall. Turns out he's a fan of LSR.

They get you up & at it right away with joint replacements! It's not like bone breaks where things need to heal & fuse with rest. Hit your PT hard & good on Celia for getting you to the gym ahead of time! That will greatly help your recovery. Do what the Doc says and baring any unforeseen complications I'm betting you'll be fine for driving.

Good luck with it!

Brian,

Make sure you do your PT and ice down often. I didn't have joint replacement but I did have bicep and triceps tendion repair, sub scapular repair, rotator cuff repair, bone spur removal and bone reshape. They had me back to work in 8 weeks.

Good Luck,

Jim
