I saw this on the channel 8 website this morning.  I didn't know him but I saw his team play here a few years ago and I was impressed with their discipline and execution.  I think this was their last championship year in 2001.  I hope they find the shooter and bring him to justice soon.  Parkersburg has suffered enough devastation over the last year or so.

I just checked the channel 8 website again and the shooter has been taken into custody and is in the butler county jail.  Maybe we will find out why this happened.

Well -- yes, I know the topic says "non-LSR" -- but I have to admit that this is quite a way off the basic premise of the landracing.com website.

We're about a day away from Maxton and somewhat toasted from driving with the air conditioning on in the truck all day - that's new and hard on us -- so I might later want to change my take on the subject -- but I'd say that the "non-LSR" thread ought to stay somehow related to our avocation.  Perhaps, therefore, if the story about the murder involved a racer or vendor to the sport, or if one of the students on the team was a racer's kid -- then MAYBE it'd be right for the site.  Or if a racer had been a student of the fellow that got killed -- then there'd be some tie-in.

Gee, what I miss when we're in the truck all day.  Suffice it to say that our thoughts are with the entire community where the shooting took place.

And "Stupid Joke Friday" isn't.  Granted, two members does not a quorum make but to those of us, Calkins and me, who knew Coach Thomas, by reputation or personally, this is of relative importance.  Sorry if we strayed too far from the non-LSR topic.  It would have been tasteless to try to make a joke of it to post on Friday.

Okay -- now you've qualified why the death of the coach is appropriate to the non-LSR threads.  Most of those that John listed have something to do with racing -- whether a racer being congratulated on a birthday anniversary, or -- now that i understand -- the racer's coach being murdered.  Of all the topics Johjn mentioned there are two or three that don't appear to have even a near relationshiip -- but most of them did, in one way or another.  I'll let the subject go -- you folks do get to contribute what you want to this Forum, and my job is to keep an eye on what's going on and maybe help push back onto the course once in a while.  I guess that I didn't need to do anything this time, either.

As Her Wisdom Star, the princess of 90 Universes, said in "Glory Road" byRobert Heinlein -- the secret to governing well is to --most of the time -- do nothing at all.

I'm 30-40 minutes from Parkerburg.  I just thought that most have heard of the twister that destroyed most of the town last year, and that high school football is pretty much the only thing that keeps that town going.

I guess I won't start a thread about Farrah Fawcett dying  :-D  Just kidding!
