classification questions...again.
« on: June 18, 2009, 10:32:01 PM »
So last year I entered the car under BGSS...The best I can figure, I can move up on classification and up on motor class.  The Alt Coupe and Modified Sports class are both classes the car would fall under the "traditional" catagories.

BFALT
BGALT

BFMS
BGMS

BFSS

Can I really run under all these variation?

Thanks

Are looking to run ECTA, SCTA or where?  Modified sports would be a no, sports cars only?  Looks like it would fit into Gas Coupe, Production, Altered and with some work maybe Comp Coupe.  Tell us more about what you have done to your car.

First thing you'll need is a rulebook.  Read the safety tech area carefully.  NHRA stuff doesn't necessarily pass.

DOH!  Me too.  Is ECTA the same safety rules as SCTA?

The reason I ask this is because The Centimark Mustang has ran in BFSS, BGSS, BGALT and BFALT....All the same car and I'm trying to figure how and were I fit. Especially when not running the SS class. Or should I be in a production class.  CRAP this is all so confusing.  I know I'm going to drop back down to D on the motor for the 305 but the rest is a blurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...........................

To your query about ECTA and SCTA safety rules -- they're very similar, but I'd scour the book carefully, very carefully, before committing to something that you feel is good enough.  ECTA has some differences in track and pavement considerations, for instance, that might make something very necessary -- where it wouldn't be so critical at the Salt -- and vice versa.

The usual caveat is given now:  If you've got safety questions -- contact Joe Timney at Delaware Chassis Works.  Not only does he know the safety stuff -- but he's president of the ECTA.  Come to the event next weekend, whether with or without the car -- and ask in person.  You'll get really good and valid information that way.

Don't think you can run production with that blower.

Don't think you can run production with that blower.

Neither did I, but the question still remain....is there mutliple classes a car qualifies to run for such as the Centimark Mustang did and why? The reason I ask is I'm trying to determine some goals for record purposes. It nice to have something to shoot for.

I have last years book but it apears to me that nothing is "written" in cold hard stone as to where exactly a car fits. I'm content running D/BGSS but would like to know where else I fit, especially away from the ECTA SS class if I decide to go to other events, such as the salt flats or Texas Mile.

Thanks again for your thoughts,

Brent

I'll take a shot at this.  He ran in the SS (street class) in addition to alt since the record was obtainable and he met the , let's say liberal to be politically correct, requirements to run in SS.  He did stick a tag on it but I sure would love to see a state inspector's face when it drives up though!  To be fair though, the SS classes would be pretty boring if only street driven cars were running in them.  I am guessing about 50% of our SS cars have seen the street in recent years.

As far as safety requirements go, you have to meet the safety requirement for the current record in that engine class even if you don't think you can get close to it.

Don't forget that you have to change classes at registration prior to the run and the first change is $50 I believe.  I assume there is a tech inspection associated with the change if the record speed/rules are significantly different.
