Reduce air compressor noise.

Compressor too loud?  Take a piece of old carpet the height of the tank, and 3 times it's diameter in length.  Wrap it around the tank, fuzzy side inwards.  Punch holes in it to zip tie it on.  Drops noise 50% or more.   I'll post pics if anyone needs them.

I mounted mine on rubber cushions that I made from 3 of those "replacement"  bolt -in core plugs (freeze plug) Drilled through them and lag bolted them to the floor. Made a huge difference.  J.B.

I haven't run the compressor much since installing it -- and it's still on the wooden skid on which I got it.  I'm thinking of using hockey pucks for the rubber mount.  They're hard rubber, the right size, and cheap (up here at least).  Anyone tried them -- and have reasons why or why not?

I use hockey pucks on my compressor in the shop. Works really well. No trouble finding them in this part of the world!

Yup, I had some old rubber machine cushions I bolted to the feet as well.  While it didn't stop the "ringing" noise the tank made, it did reduce the vibrations in the floor and walls.  Nothing is more irritating than watching your dial indicator start dancing when the compressor comes on.  I put the compressor in a closet, put in an electric bathroom vent fan up top to evacuate the hot air (only comes on with the compressor on), put a solid core door on the closet, and cut 1" off the bottom of the door to allow fresh air in for the fan.  Came out pretty quiet but only after the carpet trick.  The Craftsman 80g vertical compressor I used was twice as loud as my old Ingersoll Rand T30.  Guess you get what you pay for.

i used a thick, big truck mud flap under a 60 gal.
tank. don't know how much good it did.

comp. is in basement. doesn't take up garage floor space,
very little noise and cold winter start ups at lake erie are avoided.

A gas compressor is a mechanical device that increases the pressure of a gas by reducing its volume. Compressors are similar to pumps: both increase the pressure on a fluid and both can transport the fluid through a pipe. And electric fan, I guess?

My compressor is a noisy b###h, but since none of my neighbors speak my language, I don't worry about the noise.

I wouldn't know if they were complaining or not.

I put an old chevy air cleaner with one of those little snorkels on mine. Replaced the horse hair or whatever it was filter. Eliminated the pulse noise of the intake.
At a shop I used to work at, we ran the intake through the wall to the outside, made a weather cover for rain, snow,  made a big difference in noise.

I installed a 150 HP reciprocating compressor on a 5 yard concrete base mounted on bedrock. It would rattle the windows in the house across the street when the unloader kicked in.
