A terrible tragedy in many ways. Terrible for Jessi's family and friends, the racer community. And terrible for the North American Eagle team to have lost their driver and possibly all of the NAE jet car. I don't know if they can recover from this. They were not well funded so this may be the end of an effort to break the absolute LSR record that they struggled to achieve for many many years.

Very sad news.  I suppose more info as to the cause of the crash will be released later?

Terry, yes it was posted on FB that there would be a statement later. After things settle down.

RIP Jessi.  One article mentioned a 12 mile course.  I didn't think they had enough room to pull off more than 10 out there.

One of the things that really stood out to me with the NA Eagle was it didn't have a roll cage or anything other than a flight seat from what I could see.

When the car was on display at auto books in burbank California i asked ed why there was no roll cage in the car he said that at the speed that the car would be traveling at a roll cage would not make a difference if you crashed at high speed.
The speed that you wish to achieve is only limited by the depth of your wallet.

I have to question the wisdom of the lack of safety equipment too.  The answer of "at that speed it won't make any difference" doesn't really make sense to me.  Look how fast Speed Demon was going when it spilled and George walked away fine.  I was at Dallas International when Art Arfons crashed and it was a mess, but I seem to remember he had safety gear.  He also had a high speed spill on the flats that he survived.  My question is why wasn't it built internally with at the very least a driver's cage built like Speed Demon?  You might not be able to engineer enough safety for a 1000 mph crash, but existing technology seems to make 300 to 500 mph crash survivable.  A 2" cage, an interior with a formula 1 type tub, minimal controls and hard surfaces, and an air bag system and this thing could have been a survivable system. This seems to me a tragic waste.

We don't really have details yet, her boyfriend Terry said that there would be a release with information.  I imagine they are quite overwhelmed at this point, so info may take a while.  Again RIP Jessi, we will all miss you.

Some good logic there, edinlr. The NAE should have had a roll cage, minimum. No telling at what speed you will crash.

Bob Dalton blew a tire and crashed at 427 on the GPS, Afterwards he thought a check up might be in order. So he drove himself to Salt Lake City for Xrays. Excellent design and building works. The NAE people knew what they had and chose to run it that way. No point to second guess them now

If the video found online is real, it seem odd to be so close to portos while running.  Who knows..Sad times.
