Why?  Because when we inspect we need to see if there were items noticed last time -- that needed to be fixed or changed before this next event.  A brand-new logbook for a vehicle that's raced before is a big red flag -- meaning HEY!  Is this guy trying to hide something?

I think( can't recall) that the DLRA log books are free, but the next one( a replacement) is $100.....................there is a push to have them provided in a tattoo stencil format for the forgetful types, likewise there is a move to produce the rulebook in pictures because some just refuse to read it......

EXCITEMENT.........I never considered a Log Book as ART.

Does that mean you Dudes are ahead of UsA or behind US?

Do u get 16 colors or 64 colored crayons with the book?

Drawing a picture could be more descriptive than writing in the book.

But doesn't the log book go with the vehicle when it's sold?

Selling your race car could really hurt.

art?, why a truck log-book is characteristically a Pulitzer level work of fiction, but back to racing.......No , no crayons but you do get a "Mr Potato Head" style set of paper haircuts, moustaches, glasses face shapes and all the other crap to help while away the hours sitting in line,.....and quite, when asked why something was done a certain way , or for that matter any question beyond the entrants scope of understanding the answer "Fucked if I know" would really be some picture to see....

I got an email tonight from Mike Mangheli , of the  SCTA .
He stated that the Log books are only available at the event .

... I worry for those of you who end up behind me !

What is the reason for a VIN # on a LSR vehicle ?

The purpose of the VIN is to tie the log book to the vehicle. The purpose of the log book is to document the inspection process for subsiquent meets and owners. Things like who has done a bail out drill, any items that must be corrected by the next meet, special circumstances that have been passed by the technical commitee, spins and resulting re inspections, ETC. It is not a construction log.

But it is a good place to keep pictures of stuff you have buried that will be hard to show an inspector... as well as magnaflux certificates on suspension and steering stuff...
Don't worry about slowing down the line, you are in the new car line and everyone in that line is doing the same thing...

Jeff's in New Mexico, so probably can't make El Mirage this weekend.  Besides, he may be a little behind in building, I suspect.  But Jeff, before you pull into inspection at SW, purchase the log book at the trailer to the left of the inspection stands.  You'll have plenty of time, as Stainles noted, to fill it out.  It will keep you busy before the terror of your first inspection.  As suggested, bring any documentation that you might need with you.  All of us went thru this once.  And contrary to what some have said, the SCTA people can be most helpful and will do their best to get you to race your first time.

I think someone said something about bringing a new car into inspection later on in the week.  If you didn't care to run right away, maybe try that?

No need to do that.  There's a lane just for new cars.  Wait around and you might not have time to fix what you might have to fix, or the rain might just get you.  No refund.

I seem to remember at the last Elmo event that they ran out of new log books, we had about 23 rookies on Saturday alone... :-o
