That frost must be he-ll on your orange groves.
(Didn't you guys invent frozen orange juice?)

Well, we don't grow oranges -- but I've planted tomatoes and zucchini twice so far this spring.  The frost zapped the first batch of plants.

And yet -- day-before-yesterday Nancy and I went canoeing on the Whitefish River (about three miles from the house).  Beautiful.  I'll load the photos and show you in a couple of minutes.

But -- remember my mantra:  20 feet of snow and 20 below keeps out the riff-raff and keeps property values affordable.

Nancy was in the front of the canoe:

I sat in the back:

And I've gotta show ou this one of Michelle, Nancy's tattoo artist:

Jon, it's a 17-foot canoe.  Big enough for three or four, but plenty roomy for just the two of us.  The river we were on is the Whitefish -- about three miles from the house.  One of the little creeks that feeds into the Whitefish runs through the back our property -- although it isn't navigable nearer us.  But -- we went to a garage sale to look at a kayak and a canoe -- and the guy sold us both for less than he had asked for the kayak only, so we're able to enjoy both quiet waters, like shown here, and we'll go riding the kayak on streams with a little more excitement, too.

As for Michelle -- well, what can I say but that she's quite an individual.  But shes' a good artist, too, so wee just sit there and enjoy the "discussion" when she's working on either of us.  Her husband is a chiropractor -- he's the weird one in the family.

I hope to make it, although I just discovered 30-40% leakdown in 2 holes. Probably missing shifts is not good for my valvetrain.

Well, Joe -- this being my third hernia repair ('75 and '95 as wel as last Friday) -- they are getting easier every time.  Not that I'm back to 100%, but when I went to the picnic yesterday and took part in the games -- I did okay in the anvil-tossing competition.  I stayed with the lightweight ones, though.  And manhole cover frisbee -- I'm never much good at that, so I used the hernia operation for my excuse.

I'll be at the end of June event -- not sure if I'll ride, though.  I hope so -- a doctor visit tomorrow will give me some hints.

Good luck, Jon.  Have they installed Velcro to expedite the process?  Was this caused from climbing into an old Camaro thru the jungle gym?  At least a possibility.  Glad I have you sign that safety waiver.

I went to see good ol' doctor Kevorkian today for a five-day checkup.  He says all's okay, that I should be careful when I ride the race bike in a couple of weeks, and that I've now got enough DuPont mesh inside me to qualify me as a partial-share owner of their stock.

So, Dan -- the Camaro going to be in running condition?  Should I bring the -20 firesuit?

Jon,  I had a hernia reduction in '86 and --well you must be a superman. Mine felt like my left testicle had been sewn to my knee for a week or two. Congrats on your recovery!

Ken, as I said earlier -- this is the third one for me. '76 or so, '95 or so, and now.  They get dramatically easier all of the time.  Not that I'm suggesting that you go out and hurt yourself so you can qualify to have the procedure done, but. . .

Maybe you should bring it along - at least so I can borrow it.  For those of you who don't know Jon and I, you don't know how silly this is.  Jon looks like a "l", I look like a "o" - lower case.

Serious answer - not sure yet.  I'm dragging the car over to the welder guy in a few minutes to change the seat mounts and redo the belts so that they follow Joe T's suggestions.  Then off to the dyno on Tuesday.  So we'll see what happens.  Someday I'd like to be as fast as you are in the car.
