Another Class Question: P-PP?
« on: May 27, 2009, 12:49:53 PM »
I've been running 750 P-PP for a couple of seasons and now want to consume another bike. I have an 850 pushrod Guzzi that has to run in 1000 engine class. Can I bore to 999cc and still run in P-PP class (if all is right with the rest of the bike of course)?

I read the rules book over and over for an answer, and searched this site, but still can't determine whether or not boring an 850cc to just under 1000cc would put me out of the production push rod class.

This is probably a simple issue and appreciate any light y'all can shed on it for me.

You can take a production engine to the limits of the class it would fit into with the stock setup.

you can increase the displacement to the class limit either with a bore or stroke or both --the original displacement will determine the class  7.j.1. scta rule book                willie buchta

Production bikes must be visually identical with one that came directly from the factory, with a few modifications required for safety.  You'll need a metal chainguard and metal valve stems and caps, and a steering stabilizer.  But you are not allowed, for instance, to replace rubber brake lines with stainless line, even if you claim it's for safety.  Stock ground clearance is required.  At Maxton we ask you to have a copy of the manufacturer's literature or shop manual so we can compare you to the production vehicle.

Oh, yeah -- production doesn't prevent you from painting the bike.  Just keep the bodywork stock.  Read the rules and keep asking questions.  I've heard of production bikes with big cams and flowed head and bored and stroked -- all quite legally.

Thanks folks.

The way I now understand the rules, I can take my 850 Guzzi foro dei soldi, bore it (and or stroke) to < 1000cc leave everything on the bike originale e costoso, and I am within the 1000 P-PP class.

Love that Bablefish.

I think I'll hold that thought until the 750 goes fasterer...

oem displacement determines the displacement class---displacement may not be increased beyond that class limit---if your bike is 750 then thats the limit---if its an 800 then you can increase displacement to 1000 if 800 was the stock size     the rule is on page 124  7.j.1. of the 09 rule book   willie buchta

Ah, Willie, I understand now.

My 850 would run in the 1000 class. Increasing capacity up to the max in that class would not affect its legality in that class.

Thanks to all.

BTW the Bablefish translator (http://babelfish.yahoo.com/) is a great tool IMHO. I dunno the creator's connection to Hichhiker's Guide folks.
