Can anyone help me with mounting location for the chute?
Where to mount  and where to attach the line ?

Howdy, grin

Chute webbing connection should be mounted in line with the CG of the vehicle.

The chute package will mount about anywhere, but ejection of the pilot chute is best when it is tossed into the airstream. That ends up being about smack dab in the middle of the radius on the trunk lid or close to that. shocked  At least that is my opinion albeit not so humble  :wink:cool

Personally I would do some testing of the chute at low speeds from your Dodge truck!!! rolleyes Just kidding. cheesy

  And cam height is usually close for cg. Line should be tethered on strong mounting point such as frame.

 Check with chute manufacture.

Thanks guys,

My chassis/frame is 2x4 .120 sq. tube, the cage is 1 3/4  .120 DOM.... 

The tether line will be attached (very strongly) to an X Braced round tube or the chassis rear frame member in the trunk area... I just needed to know what height to mount the tether lines... Center of Gravity ?  Sounds easy, but the top half of the car should weigh less than the bottom half, so is the CG below the centerline of the car ?  AS to the chute pack ?

I assume some shutes still use chute packs and some use the "launch tubes"  I would assume that mounting the pack or tube center of the rear bumper L to R and slightly above where the License plate surround is ?

Am I on the right track...

Thanks for any and all input,,, as when the chute deploys, I dont want the sh*T to rush out of me  LOL  and prefer to keep the back tires planted when the rag blossoms.

Got it,  Just drew an imaginary line and the cam height is lower than the center line of the car, but sure looks like a good starting point for the tether attachment point.

Any suggestions on Traditional Chute  "Pack" or "Tube Launcher"  Since this is a door car, I would think Chute Pack with Pilot Chute would be fine?

On a serious note, jl222's cam height suggestion is an excellent estimation for CG  height- unless it's a forklift.

I was hoping to get some good advice here from folks who own or have owned and driven a 53/54 Stude on the salt at over 200 MPH,,, I would think / hope that what they have to say about the type, location etc of a chute would be a good starting point,,, then after the baseline advice from those who have actual experiance in this body style ,,, I will take that info and consult with Bob Stroud for the final decision.

I have searched and all the photos I see of Studes are side or front views,, I am looking for rear views so I can see the type of chute and the type and location of the mounts.

I hate to be so caught up in this method of research, but there is a wealth of knowledge and experiance on this site, I enjoy the people and appreciate the advise and experiance.
