NAE in NY times
« on: April 16, 2009, 01:09:19 AM »
The NAE will be featured in the Science section of the NY Times on Tuesday April 21. A reporter came out West to spend a couple days with us and witness one of our engine runs at the local airport with the NAE tied to our favorite tree. I was told it will be a pretty big spread. I didn't get to proof the article so it is anyones guess as to how it will come out.

Great publicity! It's a tough time to try and get sponsors.

Ed! Do you have any runs planned? What's in the future?
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

Well, the short story is, yes, we plan to schedule one series of test runs, probably in early July. We had been working with the Steam Car guys to take both vehicles to Edwards where they would go for the Steam Powered FIA record and we would conduct some detail specific runs up to mach .7 in order to gather some badly needed air preasure measurements and other data off the 75 channels. With that, we will then validate that against the CFD model. The problem is, some beaurocrats apparently got involved and now the AF has gone silent with the exception of requesting $24,000 to do the paperwork.
Looks like the Steam Car might be on its own and we will probably head back to BR. Still looking for money. If anyone out there has a quick $20K they want to donate to the cause, feel free to do so. Meanwhile, we'll keep washing windshields at intersections.............Ed

I finally took the time to read the article in the NY Times. There were a few things that could have been said differently. On our website you can link directly to the article so I did that and took the time to read the comments (45 in all). Those comments were very interesting and some very moving and inspirational. I noticed some comments that were obviously from salt flat guys who get it! There were some not so nice comments from jack-asses that are probably street corner preachers and holyer than thou types. They seem to pop up from time to time. All in all, when you expose yourself to scutiny, you can expect to get skinned up a bit. It's OK though, we're tough and we can take whatever they throw at us. If it was that easy, even Norwegians would be doing it, Yah?!
