according to to the SCTA regs and Results Book , the record is held by D.Monaco in Spirit of Modesto in the  XF class in 08/03 at 196.557 mph .So off to get the old belly fit !!

This is the current record list. If you are thinking of going after the XF/GL record I would hustle up. I understand a well known team with many flathead records are looking to push that one to 215-220 this year.

I am amazed that with all the development that has gone into the flathead - especially by members of the Land Speed Racing community - that a gas powered, normally aspirated flatty bellytank hasn't hit 200.

I mean, we're talking about the quintessential landracing combination - a bellytank and a flathead - it simply doesn't get more Bonneville than that.  This is a combination that's been around for 60 years.

Zurferjoe, to my mind, this would be one of the great milestones of this sport.  Go for it!
