Add another 54 Studebaker to the list of builds!!!
« on: April 07, 2009, 11:39:39 PM »
Hi
I recently joined, I have the start of a LSR build, 1954 Studebaker Champion on a 57 Hawk frame, Im shooting for 200 mph and having it streetable {loosely}

Plans are for a Chevy LS based engine twin turboed, tremec, full cage and all the brakes I can stuff in it!  right now Im in a collecting body parts stage
Im looking foreward to seeing other builds, questions and comments.

Ive been on the salt 2 times soon to be 3 In  Aug. I cant get it out of my head so  I decided to go racing
Thanks to my good friend  Rick!

Thanks,
Jerry Sarkozi

Good to see another Stude build.  My 55 Stude coupe is basically stalled out, been distracted on another project
You should make plenty of power with your combo.  Have you picked the class you want to run in?

Being streetable and race competitive and certified will be tough.  Not saying it can't be done, but all the safety requirements make it tough for having much street left.  I will say that the idea to run on the salt as a competitive car and then be able to drive on the street (legally.....) is a fun idea.  I used to drive my drag race 70 Camaro on the street and it was a blast.  Not 100% legal, but very fun.  Biggest violation was running the slicks on the street.  No turn signals, headlights, horn or wipers would also be trouble of a cop ever wanted to hassle me.  Fortunately I never got that serious and most cops liked the car.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.....

I used to drove my Willys coupe, 9.75 et, 140 mph, quarter mile, on the street. I have driven my Studebaker on the street, if you keep your nose clean and behave yourself you will not have any trouble with Johnny Law. However it does help to have a lot of gray hair on top of your head....

Ive got  the  gray beard  going on  so I should be  ok. I used to drive a  10.5 tire  S10 on the street all the  time.  Ive  got  a  long  way to go on the  Stude
probably change  directions a dozen times. I want  to  run as fast  as I can with the  stock  frame  and sheetmetal

Here's my street car project, which is LS-powered. We'll go for the 130 club, but in a real street car I'm balking at the cage requirement for 150, so I may let that pass.

I think it does pass the big brake/lots of power test, we'll have 500+ with a lot of upside potential.  Lots of technology added for a '53 street car.

Ive  seen the  build  page  on your  car, its  a lot of the reason Im  building my
car close to it, I dont mind  a 2 seater with a 12 point+ cage. Id like to see yours in person it looks  like  a  nice  well detailed  car

Might not be legal to change the contour in SCTA/BNI . Check with the rules committee if you plan to run on the salt

Save your time and money on the lightening process, most everyone adds weight to their LSR cars, mine weighs 4500 lbs.
