Some tin work progress..

We are using 16ga Sheetmetal for the trunk floor and the "rear bulkhead/firewall" between the trunk and interior of the car.

We are going to cut/dish out a section of the trunk floor between the frame rails and recess the Fuel Cell 4" in the floor, to lower the center of gravity.  The Fuel Cell will be surrounded on all four sides by 2x4 frame rails.

The pics will show "kinda" what I was trying to say above.

10 Gallon Fuel Cell (with internal safety foam)

Trunk Floor and Rear Bulkhead/Firewall

Front end

Making some progress,,, slower than expected but forward motion

ISP  called me Friday and the new seat for the Studebaker is done (on time as promised just 1 week)

I did not have time to go pick it up Friday afternoon, should get it Monday afternoon.. then the fun begins.. test fitting it, then attaching the head and shoulder supports, seat mounts, harness mounts,,, oh my,,gosh still so much to do and so little time and $$...  The saga continues.

Robbie,

The Fuel Cell is .125 thick Alum  with safety foam and is powder coated red.

10 Gallons will allow me 4 runs at Maxton between fill ups and should get me 3 runs at Loring and 2 runs at Bonneville.
(and it fits well where I wanted/needed to mount it)

Oh by the way,,, did you get your new Torque Converter installed yet ?

Unless you're changing from the unblown C engine you've previously planned, you might consider leaning it out a bit.  Ten gallons is twice what you need at Bonneville for two long-course runs.

Stan,

You probably know much more than I do,,, but the last thing I wanna do is have my big fat arse pushing the car cause I run out of gas....

On my lil 14 to 1  E motor,,, I put 6 gallons in the car and can make 3 runs and have a gallon left in the tank.
Now my fuel milage is not that bad... see I drive it from my pits to the gas man.

Here is the procedure once I have my event gas and tank sealed.

Drive from my pit to the staging/start line.   1.2 miles
Make my run                                           1.0 mile
Long Shutdown - down                               .9
End of long back to my pit                         1.8 miles (approx)
Total Distance for 1 run                            4.9 miles  ( 1 mile at WOT )

Maybe 10 gallons is to much... but may save standing in line at the fuel truck a  time or two.

Who knows ??

Oh by the way,, just picked up my new ISP Seat.. man it is great and fits like a glove.. I will post some pics after supper.

Charles --

I was only relating to long course Bonneville runs.

Here is the procedure once I have my event gas and tank sealed.

Drive from my pit to the staging/start line.   1.2 miles
Not allowed.

Make my run                                           1.0 mile
Hopefully 5 miles.

Long Shutdown - down                               .9
Same length but with throttle hopefully closed.

End of long back to my pit                         1.8 miles (approx)
Not allowed.

Total Distance for 1 run                            4.9 miles  ( 1 mile at WOT )
Same length, more throttle.

We use about 3 gallons for two 5-mile runs with a C gas motor.

Your mileage may vary.

I may have figured wrong on my gas consumption since have to be towed/push in the pits and from the shutdown back,,, but 3 to 5 miles at WOT,,, never done that,,, so I went with the 10 Gal  fuel cell,,, oh well the added weight ,,low and back there should help my launches at Maxton and Loring and since they are standing start venues,, that may be needed....

So much more work to be done,,, so little time !!!!

Ok,, back to the shop to get seat unpacked and some pics..

Well I have the Stude's new ISP Full Containment Seat.  Kris made the seat 2 ply's of .125 for a full 1/4" thick in most places for me. They also did some extra bracing to hold my weight.  It fits GREAT... Now we have to fit it and me in the car.

Here is a pic of about what it should look like when finished.

Here are various pics of the seat, head back, shoulder supports, head restraint. Also included are all the braces and mounting hardware.  A complete setup to custom mount in my car.

Will keep some pics as we fit in the car.  Has real nice roll bar mounting tabs and seat belt tabs etc.. Nice package,, service was great.

Robbie,

Just bring a tape measure and you can measure the seat in the Vicky.  If you like you can get in and see how your head and shoulders feel in there  (the hip width will be to wide but you will get a good idea of how it all fits together.

Are you going to pit in the same area you did in June ?  I try to pit in the cul-de-sac  across from the finish line and rescue turn out...  Want me to save you a spot ?

I may be a bit late for chat tomorrow night, bit will try to log on.
