Cars looking good, your gonna like that removeable front end.  Makes it nice to work on the car without worrying about scratching the car and the convenience of working on the engine compartment.

Charles --

Looks to me in 3.O that you need an approved one if one is available for your engine/trans.

Stan, or anyone ?

I have just read 3.0 rule as well... it does say SFI specification 61,, 6.2 or 6.3 depending on application.   an SCTA-approved flywheel shield, made from 1/4 in. thick steel providing 360 deg. coverage to retain clutch and flywheel parts may be used if aftermarket part is not available.

I agree... However here are my main points.

1. I do have a non-automatic , but it does not have a flywheel, it uses a automatic style flex plate with a contained duel disck clutch and button set up.
2. The bellhousing I have is 1/4" steel and 360 degree coverage.
3. Since I am using a clutch setup like I have, qyuartermaster is the only manufacturer of a steel bellhousing for this clutch and relaease bearing set up,  so it seems as if, it would be ok under the alternate approved language.

However, I sure do not want to truck all the way there and spend $10,000 in travel and lodging to be turned away??

Who at SCTA should I consult?

Spoke with Kiwi Steve,,

He says the SFI sticker is not required (however advised)  the main thing is  1/4" steel ... also my car does not have a flywheel etc...

He also told me to make sure to get several pictures of the bellhousing off and a on the car so as they would not have to  disassemble or get under the car to verify.

Thanks all for the heads up....

I am going make sure he gets my picture before we go any further and it is "for sure OK"  if not I will have to adapt a Lakewood 15000 and go back to the drawing board on clutch and release bearing set up.

Yes, Kiwi Steve is a great guy, he listend and asked several questions and offered suggestions as well.

I am going to take several pictures from various angles and get them out to him ASAP... So I can get a written approval before I proceed... I can not afford to get all the way out there and be turned away on a technical misunderstanding.

Thanks to all the guys who jumped in to offer your assistance,  MK, Stan, Bville etc... I appreciate the quick heads up,,, and as you can see I attack a problem and correct or clarify ASAP...

If what I have does work, then I prefer to stay with it,, If not I will have a backup plan by the time I get back from vacation next week..

Thanks again,

Charles

The Rule Book restriction on aluminum flywheels is on CAST aluminum flywheels. Presumably forged aluminum flywheels such as Scheiffer, etc are OK.

Charles,

Wouldn't it have been easier to just pay them to let you on the boat?  What kind of bait are ya usin?  What pound test leader?  Are you going to have it mounted on your wall when you catch it?  Is there a size limit or bag limit?

Okay, enough of that!! Have a wonderful time, tell your wife thank you for sharing you with us!!  Stay safe (inside the ship is a really good idea!), take lots of pictures, relax!!!

Talk to you when you get back...errr, nope, when I get back!!!

Well back from Vacation, had a great time with just me and the wife on the cruise.. now back home to focus on my real job and all my spare time on the Stude.

While I was driving to Miami, I made some calls and a friend of mine had a new in the box Lakewood  "SFI" Steel Bellhousing for a SBC (Chevy II) .. He took it over to Larry's shop for me and while I was gone , Larry made all the motor mounts, new trans crossmember and modified the mid mounts.  I decided not to take a chance on the Quartermaster bellhousing,, I took all the pictures and documented all, but a little voice told me to Mic the bellhousing,,, It was a full 1/4" where it bolts to block and tranny,, but where the clutch fork opening is it was only .188..  this could/would have caused a tech problem ,, so we changed it now..

Thanks to this board and all the fellow racer, builders and fans of LSR... this error was caught now and not at 100 degrees on the salt with no spare bellhousing....

Thanks again to all... I am glad to share my builds and I am glad to get help. comments and suggestions...

See ya later..
