Stan here is the real deal.... The  "E" motor is much faster than the "C" motor,,,, I never ran the "E" hard....(it is kinda special lil motor and we took it out to save for Bonneville in the 53 Stude we are building... ) The E  however needed to rev high and with the rear gear I had and the auto she dropped to many RPM's on the shift from 2nd to 3rd..  and was just recovering at the finish line,,, The Vicky is street legal and licensed and insured,  I decided that the Stude would be purpose built for racing only,, so took the E out for the Stude,,,, The C motor is just a street motor (well a hot street motor) only 11 to 1 compression .... The C motor however has never made a full pass on power either,,, This April we did  143.xx and 146.xxx when she nosed over and quit pulling and was stuttering like a lean out condition and I rolled out of it and coasted across the line,,, (found water in the tank ) In May we made one pass and she stuttered the whole way down (in car camera video sound is not good but if you play it on good speakers you can hear the stumbles and hear that I never hit the the secondaries till 1/2 track and then pedaled and held flat.. to finish..)

I had no idea what was going on,, but we think we found most of the problem,,, the Ground wire to the MSD box was loose and the ring terminal was about broke in half... kinda like the plugs where being blown out...we have since ran new wires and man the motor revs much faster,,, now we have to re jet and should be ok,,,, I WILL DO   154.xxx  in 2 weeks,,, record is 152.xxx
(FYI,,, the car is only tech'd to 150mph,,, so I am only allowed to go 155 max... the class record is well within my reach with this car.... now I know the Stude "should" handle better and is for sure going to be more areo than my Vicky (brick)
Does that help,,,,, ???

I know you still wanna know why a 370 only beats a 255 by less than 10mph,,,,  the reason is beat around the bush in the above text,,,, LOL,,, I think you know ???

Talk soon,, why don't you join us some time on Tuesday night chat ?

255 is kinda small for C... plus I thought out there you can't run up in motor class?...

For Maxton my E motor can run up class but the C can't run down class....

The Stude will use the E motor and run several classes (when I get the car done)  we are hoping the Stude will be ready for it's shakedown runs at Maxton in Sept....

Today we set the chassis on the ground and put some wheels and tires on it to check ride height.

Chassis is tacked up and we are checking ride height and suspension travel etc.. we should have all suspension on and chassis fisish welded by Friday. Have more gussets and X bracing to do (Like John in MD did).. Then we will set the body on begin designing the cage.

Hope these came out OK

Thanks Crow,

I hope to have cage design worked out by the weekend.

Still have not decided on design
1. a funny car type cage around driver seat,
                  OR
2.a good 12 point cage with extra gussets and x bracing with a Petty bar,  using a containment seat.

I am leaning towards design 2 since due to my size I may be able to get in and more importantly OUT quicker.

Neil,,,  remember "the king" Richard Petty ?

It is a diagonal bar that comes from the main hoop above and behind the drivers right shoulder down and to the passenger floor board area where the A Pillar down bar meets the floor/frame rail.

I hope you can visualize what I am trying to describe.

Can't find a schematic of that bar in an cage drawing or find an interior pic of a car using one.

Charles.

All new metal!  You have really made progress!

My guess, you are going to love the quick change, great choice.  Just think, easily changing ratios in small increments to match track conditions and the engine setup.

Charles, it's always a shot in the arm to have the frame sitting on wheels and tires, isn't it???

GH,, yes what a relief to have the frame on the ground resting on the same wheels and tires that took the Vicky to her first ECTA Record in June of 2008.

I can see the project finish line now... We will use thise wheels/tires to roll around the shops and then after body is on to take measurments for new wheels.

Gary, thanks for the pics you sent me as well..

Well not only is the chassis "rolling"  we test fit/lowered the body over the chassis.

Here are a few more pics.

Front stub looking down

Rear end shock mounts and bar to hold at ride height

Body lowerd over chassis (still 2" above frame rails, resting on lift)

Rear view

Me standing beside car for height reference point. Roof is 49" off the ground, at ride height should be 46" off ground from roof and approx 32" from ground to top of rear quarter panel

Charles

I'm sure that Interested Bystander knows that a 255  is an E motor and putting it in Stan back's Cst roadster would make it an Est roadster. Record 183.812 at Bville.

If I remember right at one time there was a big problem with a Stude and frame rails below the body then they said no frame below the bodys and I'm thinkin ohoh what about early Fords then they changed it so classic was ok.
When I first saw your foto's with the Frame on bottom I checked the SCTA rule book and classic class is ok [don't know about ECTA]

  Lookin good JL222

JL222,

I did the same research,,, For classic the frame can be below the body (as we are doing)  however, you cannot channel the body over the frame. (which I would like to have done)  We are keeping the same frame to body relationship, all we are doing is moving the main rails out on the perimeter so as not to have to use outriggers to attach body and more importantly the cage.  With the perimeter frame rails our main cage hoops will come down as close as possible to the B pillars and weld directly into the top of the 2x4 main rails (no tabs or out riggers).

The Stock frame rails where about a foot inside of the door sill/rocker panels and used long stamped looking out riggers,, not near strong enough for me...

Thanks

Charles
