John, thanks..
As you can see I have not cleaned up the footwell vents.. I am going to cut that out for more header room and engine setback (lower engine mount too ,, I hope)  The Glass front end is "filled" in the fender vent area, so I will not use them.  This modification will be smoother on the sides and allow the extra room for the engine to set lower and further back.

We have done all the math and conclude that 4.5" to 5" is the right height from ground to chassis.

I know you arrived at the same answer,,, thanks for such detail in your build pics and the emails..

Charles.

Thanks for the pictures, it is neat seeing a similar car under construction.  Sweet A arms and spindles.

I have bought quite a few parts from Studebaker International; nice people to work with.  I'm replacing the door fittings, hinge parts, bolts, etc., but I have not sorted out the windows.  The windows are up for discussion.  I would like to use new window frames but no one seems to produce them as replacements.  Whether to use glass or lexan on side windows is a question.  Take notice that space may be tight on installing a containment seat.

The Stude doors have a full range of adjustment (great) so reasonably good seams are possible given that the stock body panels are not as precise as those manufactured today. As you probably already know, the doors can be adjusted for solid opening and closing.

John,

I am leaning towards Lexan for my door and quarter windows.  I will Dzus or Screw the Lexan in the doors therefore they will not roll up or down, they will be fixed.  I may have a  4" hole in them to serve as driver ventalation and safety crew access to the inside door handle if needed.

My doors are in very good shape, but I may use after market latches (like bear claws or something)  for a more positive latch when closed... not sure yet,, I will use the stock outer door handles,, I have four and 2 are in great shape and 2 are painted black and need redone.

My A Arms a tubular S.S. with 2" Droped Spindles.

Hope to really start seeing some good progress on the chassis.

I think the bar as seen in the car in the prior pictures is just a working brace while the floor is out.

Yes it is just a brace for when we cut the floor out.

It is in the August 2009 issue on page 68.  Your car looks pristine.

Have a great day.

Thanks,  I guess that HRM has a staggered distribution as no one I know has an August issue,,,

I was thinking the West Coast folks get the issues first,,, but John is in Maryland and he has a copy,,, go figure.

Oh well.... guess I may have to wait,,,

CK,
I got my HRM today. Your car really looks sharp. Probably because it is sharp.....!

I showed it to my wife and she loved it. She said I should build one like it when I get our lakester done. That's never happened before and the lakester is almost done.........................

Charles:

My HRM arrived a few days go -- maybe Monday or Tuesday, the 8nd or 9rd of June.  You figure out the distribution schedule and let us know (if you can figure it out, that is).  But whatever -- your car looks fine.  It's always a kick to see vehicles that I know well in the magazine.

Charles --

I got my copy and already passed it on.  As I remember you ran 149 as a C after running 140-141 as an E in several classes.  Whas that all about?
