Looking good Charles, wish I lived closer, I'd come over and help!
I could and would use your help, if you lived closer... the next 15 days we will be working as much as possible to get it done. I am slammed at my day job, so I can't get free to help Larry as much as I need and want to. Charles Charles, If I could get next week off I would fly over to help you out, what better way for me to get some experience while I contemplate a project of my own. But my assistant is off for a few weeks with a medical issue, and they don't like us both gone at the same time. Besides, I've never been to North Carolina, I could do some sight seeing too. Giff,,, that would have been fun,,, lots to see here in NC we have awesome mountains and the Carolina beaches are great too,,, I think we are on the home stretch now,,,, By late Saturday afternoon I will have a much better handle on the situation...

I think you wont have many IF any issues. The vicky had the least of any (new) car I had seen. terry
Thanks Terry,, yeah the Vicky went through tech nicely on her Debut,,, but that was the 150 and 175 MPH tech,,,, the Stude will have to meet much more safety requirments for 200 to 225... But you can bet I have that under control,,,, my guess is NO ISSUES.... but then again,,, I have paying attention to You, Keith and Joe in the tech lines as well as went through the ECTA and SCTA Rule Books,,, So Tech should be Fun.... heck I look forward to showing off the craftsmanship of this build... Charles

Too much info for a bike guy. Last year I was looking at my tach, trying to figure out what my rpm was and ran off the track. The factory tach lies almost as much as the spedo. Fred Fred, I know what you mean... Last year I was in a crosswind and was steering the nose into the wind, just for a milli sec I glanced left at my water temp Guage and the car moved left 10 feet and I about hit the finish line cone,,,, I have made sure the guages I need to see (water temp and Oil Pressure) are direct in my line of sight so my head or eyes do not have to look away from the track to see them... So GH and Sparky are correct too,,,, no time to really look at them.... I may install a low oil pressure warning light and a warning light for high water temp to,,, so I would not have the need to look at a guage needle.. that way if the light comes on just shut her down... there will always be next time,, better safe than sorry !!! Charles

I always figured gauges are for the pits and starting line. Shift light for driving. I only look at the tach between the 4 and 5 when I'm pushing the peddle through the floor willing it to pull another 500 rpm

Yup, this year I will have a shift light and gear indicator only, positioned where I will be looking directly over them. Fred

Big, bright, serious warning lights are the only way to go. As long as they catch the corner of your eye that's all you need for driving. The gauges are for checking after you've slowed down to ensure everything's together for the next run. Pete

I am going to install Murphy Saftey Guages in the new car---they are saftery switches that will shut down the eng with too low oil pressure or to hot water

That is a good idea,,, but I would want to make sure they are accurate and reliable,,, so they did not shut down premature and mess up a good run.... Charles

As long as they have an override the true racer will use it for sure as long as the run feels good to him/her. Pete

Charles,
Stude's looking good m8.
For the "ease the mind at a glance" approach you can always rotate the gauges so the needles are vertical when all is good too.
I like the idiot lights, Murphys would worry me a little if they just killed the engine, you'd want to be quick with the clutch (on the salt) I assume?
I've installed them for stationary engines and earth moving machinery and can tell you they work from personal experience. We lost an oil line on a pump rig, the shed interior was covered in oil but the engine was fine.
Cheers, Rob

Charles, the Auto Meter Pro-Lite warning lights are what I used to use on the oval track cars because they worked and were really bright. They're also relatively easy to mount, even in something that's already built.
It might be worth a look.

PJ, as you may have noticed I use Auto Meter stuff... I will check with my source and see about the warning lights.
I know some guages have the light built in,,, I would rather have separate and larger/brighter warning lights.
My dash panel is removable (even with the guages installed, just quick disconnect wiring) I can look into ways to mount lights....
