GH,

All that aluminum under the hood will be powder coated on both sides (once we finish all the mounts and tabs).

I would hope the powder coat would hold up against the salt better than the bare aluminum or paint.

The Rear Spoiler is also Aluminum and it will be powder coated as well.

My Plan is any aluminum will be powdercoated.. Thought about anodizing ?? But  not sure how that would work?

Vic,  yes that's my cell #  call anytime,,   I should be working on my Stude at Rod Crafters the week after Christmas  (Monday - Thursday)  We are closed  Friday (New Years Day)
Call ahead and let me know your ETA..

Charles. how thick was the aluminum you welded together for the inner fenders?  What was the alloy?

Wobbly,

If I remember correctly we used  .080  6061 T6  Aluminum Sheet.
It is strong, workable and has good corrosion resistance.
Also the .080 will provide some extra rigidity once bolted in place.

Charles,

Been my experience [bike and transport van 2 years and crew on a car towed on an open trailer 1 year] that the big salt problems originate in the "catcher and keeper" nooks and crannies.  Anything done to minimize [and pre treat/protect them] makes post salt event clean up [a must do asap] much easier.  Larger, flatter surfaces seem to survive much better.  YMMV.

Ed, thanks for the heads up.

We are minimizing all the nooks and crannies and making the front end, entire body and interior panels removable for post salt clean up and inspection.

I am sure I am in for a bigger mess than I realize,,, have to learn form you old Salt Dog veterans.

Your idea of keeping things simple and making the car easy to take apart for cleaning and inspection is a really good idea.  It is extra work now but it will save time and trouble in future years.  Thanks for the info on the metal.

Wobbly,  yes  the easy off body (or maybe not easy,, but at least removable will help in post salt clean up).

Robbie,, 102 Days,,, Man,, I sure hope we get done,...  Hope to get headers build and finish front end mounts and radiator mounts,, then we can remove the body, disassemble and go to paint and reassemble..

all in 90 days ?  Oh my,,, I need more hands on the project,,, just Larry and Me may not cut it.. need a big push of progress  !!!!

See ya in a week or two ?  Friday the 8th I am available.. but the 15th.. I am out of town

Maybe you can come up on the 8th or the 22nd ???

Let me know

Combo Chute Mount/Push Bar has been completed. --  Joe T  thanks for the pic and the advice..

Robbie, we "hard" mounted the unit rather than make it removable hitch style. I think you are right about the strenght and less parts to fail.

I will post pictures tomorrow night.

Tomorrow , have to make and install the roof rails, finish mount the air dam, finish mount the front end. Try to figure the rad mounts , Rad will be angled like an older 70's/80"s Vette. Seat front support legs, lap belt mounts, sub belt mounts.

Get NACA ducts for driver fresh air intake and cockpit exhaust venting.

Buying a few Lotto tickets,,, need any help I can to finish the build,,, ???

Vic,

Thanks for the good ideas (on some aero things to kick around)

Hope you enjoyed the tour of the 3 shops, the local lunch hang out and had a good time today.

I enjoyed the chat and bench racing.

Keep in touch... I will definitely call you before we go to the wind tunnel.
