GH,

I like the sound of that   "GREAT at 248"  You need that as a Bumper Sticker on your Fine Stude !!!!

If I could just say "Feels Fine at 209"    I would be happy !
(At Maxton and Loring that would get me in the 200MPH Clubs, I have more research to do to see what I need/want to do at an SCTA  event to get the Red Hat)

Gary, thanks again for all your help and encouragement. I appreciate you taking the time to mail me all the pictures for my research early in the build.

Drivers View, Dash, Switch and Electronics Panel..

View of the Dash/Gauge Area looking from the seat at Head Height

Switch Panel, mounted to Box that will hold all electronics and wiring

Just below the black switch Panel, I will install/position the Fire System Pull Handles.

The Chute Release pull will be mounted in the lower left corner of the box face, just to the right of the steering wheel and above the shifter ball. If you look close I think you can see the shifter ball above my right knee.

See I am not just a "black and white thinker"  here are my thoughts in Color..

Chute Release is BLUE !!!

Fire Release is RED !!!

This layout allows me to see all the gauges, switches and safety devices without turning my head, all controls are within 5 to 10 inches of my right hand and can be operated without taking my eye off the road.. May need a bit of tweaking later, but so far so good.

Charles,

Well done!  Thanks for sharing the details.

I like your dash and switch panel mockup.  This gives me an idea to add to your thoughts.  I will scan or photograph the gauges and print them out full size.  I can then move them around with tape to determine the correct location before drilling holes in the panel.

Geo,  that is how we do it,, Mock everything up in cardboard, then tape pics up etc..

We test fit it all, then I get in the car and make sure I can see, reach and then find and feel all the controls with my eyes closed. Then after all that we proceed to final fit and install.

Good luck on yours.. keep us posted and take plenty of pics....

Robbie,

As to the chute release.  The kit Joe T is getting me from Stroud includes an alumimum Lever, I also have a Round Pull... Which one I use depends on how it all feels with my gloves on and eyes closed.

Charles --

I wasn't questioning the safety or the soundness of your decision.  I'm certainly not at all qualified to do that.  I just found my first BV inspection stressful.  And having to expalin something on a new car would add to that.  A couple of pounds at shoulder heighth would not upset the balance of the car.  And might save an arguement.

Two years ago I had to explain the double-tapered lug nuts as the inspector said I had them on backwards.  Then had to explain the SFI dating on only the right side of my newly rewebbed belts.  And then had to do math to show that my 1 1/2-old firebottle inspection was okay.  I lost that one -- he wrote me up in my log book.  He couldn't add 2 to 7.  Kept coming up with 8.  So I'd (me) would just put the gussets in and be even safer.

I like 45 front and 55 rear, but don't have a Studebaker.

Charles,

I like the lever  better but  was thinking from mount location a pull type would be better.
Just my 2 cents which isn't much anymore.

Stan,  I fully see your point and appreciate it.  It's folks on here that point our potential "items of concern"  that can save me time a stress later.  Good points in your last reply,  I have the same lugs in my parts bin, so I see your point.  I have talked with Kiwi Steve a month or so back about a few Items where my car differs from the book.  I am documenting the build quite extensively and making sure we are at or above the requirements in all areas (well except for my drivers door bar, which is unique to my needs, but combined with the other features of the cage and chassis and containment seat with head and shoulder supports, have been blessed so far)

Robbie, yep Lever seems to be the device of choice to deploy the chute...I have seen and used 3 ways in the past.. Lever, T Pull and Round Knob Pull.  I will keep you posted.

No offense, at al, to Kiwi Steve.  A real sharp guy.  But as they say -- talk is cheap.  Get it in writing.

Charles:  Great car and really nice work.  We all appreciate the details you are showing.  I see many ideas that I will try to copy into my coupe.   I have a request.  When you get to the point of designing and installing the door net please show those details as well.    Art

Art, thanks and yes I will show the door net details,,, as a matter of fact,, If all goes well I may be working/measuring/figuring/cyphering etc on the door net details this Friday afternoon.

I will try to take pics too when we start the mounting process.
(I am leaning towards the poly blend net material over the traditional nylon for added strength)
