Well, I guess it was required, so I did change the filter so it only works on entire words - not on portions of words.

Serious?....for a long time there I couldn't use my photobucket site because it is called "fourdoorshitbox"......so I'm checkin' , right here , right now if it'll get through again.....half the photo's on our Australian Bellytank thread disappeared when that happened....

wow, I just previewed it and it seems yr right Slimbo, thanks...

Larry and I made good progress today. I forgot my camera and so I will have to post more pics later this weekend.

We mounted the Wilwood Hanging pedal/master Cyl assembly. Mocked up and tacked all steering rods, joints and shafts as well as the wheel and quick disconnect hub.  Made the templates for the dash, the switch panel and all the mounting tabs for the fire system pull cables and the chute pull cable attachments Found a shifter lever with the correct height and arc for me. Larry must have welded in 12 to 14 tubular gussets to every place tubes join.
Larry tacked in the long awaited "big mans" drivers door bar.

Now for the weekend,,,Hoping to finish the dash/gauge panel and switch panel this week and get head start on the front inner fenders. and final mount the front end and air dam.

Ordered Chute too...

Pics from Wednesdays work.  Larry was busy welding gussets,,,, also fit up Steering assembly, pedals, door bar, etc

At EACH of the cage tubes welded  junction, Larry put a 1" x .120 DOM tubular gusset.
(Frame is 2"x4"x.120 and cage is 1 3/4 x.120 DOM Tubing)
All finish TIG welding will be done when we remove the body in a few weeks for paint

Charles.

I would mount that seat a little better. Maybe one or two pop rivets!!!

Stan,  I am not using plate gussets..   I am using Tubular Gussets and I have twice as many as the rules require.

"ON NEW CONSTRUCTION A PROPER TUBING GUSSET IS REQUIRED"

This is what I was told By Joe Timney of ECTA and Kiwi Steve from SCTA

Do you think my tubular gussets are going to be a problem ?

I may end up wishing I had that conversation in writing, but each of my main hoop and other main cage junctions all have a tubular gusset.

Tony,  thanks  If all goes well and we make enough speed (and all holds together) at Loring on August 1, 2010, plan to be on the Salt for  at least one of the events in 2010.

I don't know anything about ECTA.  But I saw pg. 25.  We ain't hurting for weight.  Why not just follow the written rule and not have to worry about it.

Stan,  heck we are not concerned about weight either,, (I am the driver and I weigh 375, so we are just worried about the weight being balanced properly, once I get in)  My next big question is what is the proper Front to Rear weight distribution for this type of car ?

The tubular gussets weigh more than 1/8" plate gussets. Also I have 4 times more gussets than the required 4 per side.  We chose to use tubular gussets, as we where told that they are stronger and provide not just shear protection, but some added structural rigidity and tube support.  In the opinion of pro chassis builders the tubular gussets are a step above the minimum requirements of the basic .125 plate gussets.
We where not going against the book to cut corners, we where trying to be safer and exceed the minimums.

Thanks for your concern and keep the ideas, opinions and comments coming,,, this build diary has multiple purposes and one is to resolve problems here and in the shop before we head to the salt.

My Bell Housing mistake was caught and resolved within a few days of me posting those pics and although I had to buy another Bell Housing and make new mounts and buy another release bearing,,,this board saved my bacon on that pick...

When I was building my car back in 2001, Joe Timney told me to have about 51% on the front end, it works great at 248 mph.
