I went to visit the gentleman who manages our century farm (been in the wife's family over 100 years).  This year he put a new wood burning boiler at his home and has his electricity bill now running about $28 per month with the thermostat at 70.  The system has about 100 gallons of water in it.  He was as proud of it as he is with his tractor collection.  He was burning old seed bags and cardboard boxes when I stopped by.

Okay -- more properly a wood-fired boiler.  We heat the house with hot water circulating through radiators -- both baseboard and in-floor.  When we bought the house that water was heated with an oil-fired boiler, then I changed to propanne fired -- and now we're going to have the wood boiler to heat with.  We've got 55 acres of hardwoods on our 60-acre parcel of land -- and about 10 acres is all it takes to heat the "normal" house -- using only the deadfall, not even harvesting growing trees.  We've got very cheap fuel for ever and ever -- if we burn it (the wood).  So therefore the wood (fired) boiler.  It holds, by the way, 196 gallons of water -- circulates it to the house but not through the household system -- there's a heat exchanger to kep the two waters separate.

Now, there's no bathroom in the garage -- the house is pretty close, and this way I've got more room for tools and toys.

Charles, These vents are on the back of a Firebird.  The original builder told me that the vents were copied from a Stude around 1972. They blocked them off over twenty years ago and ran it a few times and the car has been sitting ever since.  Let me know if you need any more pictures.  Tony

Tony,  Thanks,, that gives me a good idea  how they "piped" the air up and out...

I am still not sure if I need them, but as some will say,, it's a bit eaiser to do them now before we do final paint and fit..

Thanks again.

If anyone knows please let us know.  Also if anyone has experiance runnung without them on A Stude and with them as well, your insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,  off to a car show and swap meet/auction  now...

Hey Slim!

Methinks your A*S*S filter is working overtime in the middle of words.

Kinda funny how picures of boobies with pasty pasties is considered acceptable content but the word class isn't. I guess I don't get it......

Well, I guess it was required, so I did change the filter so it only works on entire words - not on portions of words.

As for the photos of ladies wearing pasties -- since the essential "private" parts are covered I didn't feel that the photos were too risque for publication on the web.  Thanks for mentioning it, though -- I see you're paying attention.

Charles -- what's a Carolina winter temp?  Something really frigid - like maybe 45F?  Then plunging to below 32 during the freezing-cold night?

Just wondering.  Up here a cold spell will give us -20F on the coldest times -- usually only once or twice a year.  Daytime highs in the winter often stay at or near zero for a week or three at a time, though.

Now you know why I've got the new 250,000 BTU/hour boiler and 18 full cords of hardwood.

Jon,,, looks like you are ready for winter,,, we get some cold spells  in the low teens, but not often,, the bad part is when we get freezing rain and the low teens,, major power outages, down power lines and trees..  But still not as cold as your winters or the ones we had growing up in the High Desert of Oregon.
