I feel your pain Charles!  I am in the same boat. I too wanted to run this year but time and money has slowed the build. I could probably rush the build and make the last Maxton event but I am just going to take my time and do it right and finish it over the winter. At least you have the Vickie you can run. Take your time and do it right and I am sure you will be ready to kick butt next year...... JerryO

Joe and Jerry,  thanks  for the kind words.

Yeah I am a bit bummed out, I really wanted to run the Stude this year.  Jerry, you are right about working over the winter and having more time to get'er done.  Hope your build gets back on track too.

Looks like October will be busy.  We have Maxton October 24/25 and then the following weekend is Goodguys Rod and Custom show at Charlotte Motor Speedway. That Friday night the 30th. will be Friday Night Drags  for the 1954 and earlier Hot Rods and the 1955 to 1972 Street Machines . they will run the 1/4 mile at Zmax Dragway.  Since I have Slicks for the Vicky now, I am going to run  her Friday Night. (I am just going to install a line loc and then we are ready for drag racing too)

Hope to see you all in October.

Robbie,

I think I know how a pregnant woman must feel ??  I know I know,, don't tell me about the labor pains,,, SHOW ME THE BABY,,,, that is how I feel,,, I am ready to see the finished product.

We are plugging along... making progress daily... checking and double checking to make sure we don't miss anything.

If I must say so myself, my desire is to have this thing looking like a piece of automotive art...If she don't go fast , she sure will look good !!!!  So having the winter to finish up will allow a bit more attention to detail...we threw the Vicky together from scratch in less than 7 months and that spoiled my timeframe expectations for the Stude.

Yes the Vicky will be at Maxton in October, then the GoodGuys drags the following Friday night.  Bring the big Mopar to Charlotte after Maxton ??

Terry,

We have finished the interior sheet metal and the cage is done (except for the drivers door bar ?? )
The Chassis has been done except for the Panhard bar out back and the chute mounts.

We mocked up the one piece front end and cowl hood, then put the front air damn. Good thing the ride height is adjustable and the air damn is removable..(loading on the trailer and the bumps at Maxton) will require a bit more ground clearance up front.

Hope to get some more pics... soon

See you in 2 weeks.

SSS,

The bad word police has intercepted my air Dodge and made it an air Dodge ??

Let's try spelling a few ways

Hoover  Dam     ( d a m )      Air  Dam     ( d a m )
Hoover Dodge    ( d a m n )   Air  Dodge   ( d a m n )
Hoover Dahm    ( d a h m )   Air  Dahm   ( d a h m )

Just for giggles   lol

Charles, I made my air dam removable using 3 Dzus fasteners, for the same reason, trailer loading and unloading.

GH,

I saw pics of your air dam and decided that I too will use dzus and make the air dam removable.

I am using  4 to 6 Dzus  ( not sure yet )

I am also going to have tie down loops welded to chassis for easy hook up in trailer and a removable  "eye bolt"  type tow hook/eye up front for pulling around pits/ return road etc..

I have not decided on a push type device, still at the drawinf board on chute mounting.

I need some good rear end pics of 53 or 54 Studes with chutes ???

No need to reinvent the wheel,, so if any one can send me chute mounting pics I would appreciate it.

Charles --

While you're at it . . .

You might consider using a tow bar.  Take two tabs out the front, takes about a minute to hook up using a trailer hitch which your truck already has.  And, as I think you're taking the car to BV, it's a lot easier and safer towing back from the 6-mile on the long course which is where I hope you'll be running.  Now's the time to do it, not later.

Be sure you brace the bottom of the air dam as we found that ours tried to tuck under at speed.  I think ours uses about 8 dzus fastners on the air dam.  As many times as I have taken it on and off you would think I would know but I am not sure.

Here is a link to a picture of our chute attachment.  http://purplesagetradingpost.com/sumner/hooley/2008-8.jpg  The chute mount is hidden in the shade but you can get the general idea.  I might be able to find a clearer picture.  Hooley added the diagonal braces after he bent the mount twice when he spun the car.  I can take a better picture for you if you need it.  I will try to remind Hooley to contact you for more information.

This makes it easier to see the mount.
