Rob---good point  I run Gear Vendor OD units set up to freewheel just for that reason.  I have blown up twice once on the salt at 230+ and once on the dirt at about 170--

no lost tires :-D  no circular braking :-)

Engine was not delivered today as promised,,, held us a bit.. Engine should be here around 8:30 to 9:00 in the morning.  If so, we can then work on getting the clutch set up and transmission mated back to engine, then drop them back in as a unit.  Hope to have all that done so we can finish plumbing the brakes and fuel system.

Spent half my day chasing down parts, more time driving and hunting parts than actual time spent on the car.

Oh well hope tomorrow works out as planned.

Eric, I  am going to use the "E" motor (255 cu. in. SBC)  that I used in 2008...  Did a Cam Change, Header Change, Trans Change and Some More Head Work and Porting.

Today was a good day, just Larry and I in the shop from 8:00am the 1:30 (before it got so hot) We got the entire brake system plumbed, the fuel tank mounted, fuel cut off and fuel filter mounted. Parachute Mounted and Release Cable routed and mounted. Started on some electrical..mounted battery box and vent tubes, mounted MSD Ignition Box.

OK , more updates later....

New back glass rubber and glass put back in today.. Have not decided on new laminated safety windshield or buying some 3/16 MR10 scratch resistant Lexan,,,, Both will cost about the same,, Since I have brand new windshield rubber and trim,, I am leaning towards that (as well as ease of installation, as well as matching the rear)

Brian delivered my motor today, Larry finished  plumbing the fuel lines. I ordered my new Moon Disks, and hope they come in soon so can have time to clear powder coat them before Maxton,, if not I will borrow the Moon's  from the Vicky and powder coat the new ones before install on the Studebaker.

Motor and Transmission are installed, all electrical is done, all fuel system is plumbed..more info and pics to come later.

C'mon- I will be lettering the class designation and the one sponsor on the Escort on Thursday night at some hotel on the way down. Of course, I would imagine your do your lettering with something other that a rattlecan and paper stencils.  :-D

See you there.

Charles,

Your attention to appearance and detail is top shelf but the lights won't read the scallops.  If you can get it together, run it to get some seat time in and shake out any bugs [fire ants?].

Hemi,

You have the fever and the right spirit antedote for sure, all the best for a great first meet.

Everyone,

Have a safe, fun, and fast meet.  Regretfully missing another one, looking forward to getting back soon as I can.

                             Ed

Ed,

You are correct about how picky I am and how I like everything to be perfect before the car runs.  But with next weekend being my only chance to run the car "local" before hauling 22 hours to Loring in July and even a longer haul to B'Ville in Aug or Sept... I guess we will bring it for tech and a few shakedown passes "if able" to,,, we will not let the final graphics and paint to keep us away,,, as long as we are finished mechanically we will be there.  (we may pull a 6am to 10pm day on Tues and Thur, and make final decision on Friday)

A few more Pics as of yesterday.. We only worked 6 hours yesterday, the heat all week has just drained the energy from Me and Larry. (plus a few Gremlins showed up and derailed our progress)   Stupid me put the front A arm shock plates on upside down and the front end was to high ( I noticed it was a bit high, but thought after the engine was in it would settle down.. I was wrong)that was a 90 minute delay and a very frustrating "re do" compounded by the 98 degree inside temps.. Oh well, that problem was resolved and work continues.

Right Rear Quarter

Left Rear Quarter

Larry fishing wires through dash grommet

MSD and Switch wiring in switch pod

1 inch hex lugs installed.

Fire Bottle Pull Cables

Steering back in

Engine back in

I hope Larry and get Radiator and cooling system plumbed and ready tomorrow so we can test the engine late tomorrow or early Tuesday,,, Hopefully some more and major progress updates by mid week.

Charles
