JL222,

Oh by the way, in the pics I attached, the body is on the lift arms about 3 inches above the frame rails.

When done, the frame will be  about a 1/2" below the door rocker/sill's...

First class work on the chassis!

Re: Stan and 255  another world to conquer-he's held the D and C records - word now is a  switch to DOUBLE A. An available just under 1100 HP BBC is being knocked about.

That good handling Al Simon chassis would get the true test.

Charles, Looks like the Stude build is moving along really good. When will you have the cage completed. Looks to be a first class car.             JerryO

Jerry,

We have to finish cutting the floor out this week and fit new body mounts.  Once we get body fit back correctly we will begin to measure and design the cage layout.

I am going to design a 12 point cage set up using a containment seat, extra x braces and a petty bar.

I would also like to look at possibility of a funny car type cage "addition"  but I think it may be much harder for me to get in and out of ??

Charles.

Your body-chassis setup is looking good.  I'm welding in the kidney bar but only fabricating the funny car portion until I see how things go for installation later.

John,

I sure would like to see your funny car cage design and how it can be incorporated into the full cage design you already have.

Thanks

Fabrication is being held for the moment while we sort out the front end.  Believe it or not the Street Stuff uses an aluminum cross bar on the upper A-arm.  So I have to get a steel replacement - somewhere?

Did the file open?

I'll provide photos when I get something to show; the kidney bar is cut.

John,  yes I was able to open the disk... it took some playing around but I got it... Thanks alot... It is sure ging to help me "think" about some options.

Larry cut the floor out and set the body on the car at ride height and man it is lower than I thought it would be... we have enough adjustability in the car to raise or lower from the baseline setting + or - 2 inches...

You're following the good, Cagle San-Chez tradition of a low Stude!

I'm glad the file opened as it contains some very useful photos.

Body is just about in it's final resting place, the original firewall mounted (triangular) body mounts are holding the front of the body a bit over an inch high on the new chassis.  Once we remove them and build new firewall and mounts the body will drop down in place.

Here are a few more progress pics..

Be gone a few days,, hope to get more work done and pics posted by next week.

Charles,    The stude is looking good. If you are thinking of going with a funny car type cage like the Pro Stock drag cars use, I can send you some photos of a cage I just finished for Pro Stock racer Allen Johnson. I built Allen a full size cage to be used as a simulator so he can practice launches. If you want, I can take some photos and send them to you. The guy that is building your cage should have no problems incorporating the funny car cage into your car. It can be designed so It will not give you a problem getting in and out of the car. I feel this type cage is much safer than a standard cage. JMO

I don't see a rear end locater yet. You going to use a watts or panard bar? Also, I see that your lower rear shock mounts are the same that I have on the Fairlane. We had some problems with them bending after we added ballest and had to beef them up.

Jerry,,,

Yes please send the pics of the funny car cage... the guy from RCR that is going to do the bending was by today and had a few questions,,,, I missed him and he will be back next Tues...

T-Salt,,,, thanks for the info on the lower shock mounts... I will keep my eye on them,,  may brace/beef them up from the get go..

On the lateral locater for the rear... was torn between  Watts, Wishbone and Panard... due to mass of the QC Rear and unfamiliarity of the Watts, we have narrowed down top WishBone and Panard,,,, We will start with big tube Panard 36" long for the least amount of lateral movement.... Will have provisions to switch to Wishbone later if need be.

Bellhousing just came in,, Taking the motor and tranny off there stands and going to mock them up in chassis and see if headers fit.

Lots more work, but in the last 15 days seems like alot of big progress...

Charles........ Here are a few photos of a NHRA Pro Stock cage I built. This is just a practice simulator so all the bars are not in the car. As you can see, you can make the funny car cage part as wide or narrow as you need.  It would be very easy to incorporate it into a standard cage. With the proper padding I feel this type cage gives the driver better protection in a side load or roll over crash. This cage is not of my design and I would change a couple things but I think the photos give a idea as how to lay it out. Also, about your other post about using a halo or conventional a- pillar bar. I have built both designs and have had both on twist fixtures and have not really seen much difference. My personal opinion is to use what ever makes it easy for you.  The funny car cage can be used on both designs. Hope this helps and contact me if you need any other info......JerryO
