Side and Center Stands

Rule 4.H states... "Side and Center stands must be removed"
 
 Suggest changing this to side and center stands must be securly fastened to prevent coming down during a run.

Are you racing or bar hopping? Why do u need a stand hanging down there. Does the side stand help when you adjust the chain? Remove them.

I find that having a centerstand is way handy out on the salt, especially if you don't have assistance. They are only a hazard for roadracing where they might touch down during cornering and upset the bike. I vote to make their use optional. They aren't gonna fall off.

ok Frued, so at the end of the course
 when I pull off and have a fire I get to
 get off the bike and lay it on its side
 so with oil, fuel and other fluids potentially
 impacting the fire, the fairing is ruined while
 someone hits it with a fire extinguisher......
 
 so it makes bad sense to put the bike on its side stand at the end of a run???
 
 side stands are better attached than half the
 rest of the crap on many of the bikes out there,
 but I need to remove it because someone says it might come off.......gimmee a break
 
 this should be about common sense and innovation

  Joe, your continued use of your logo statement..."innovation vs. limitation", isn't supported by your action on the course.
 
 When I look at the foto of your bike taken after your Speed Week run with Jon standing behind you and your head buried on the tank, I can't find a hole in the fairing that would allow you to extend your kick stand but maybe you knew that you wouldn't need it on that run.  Am I to believe that you are re-installing it for 2005? Do you think Jon won't be there to hold it up for you?
 
 I never see it on a side stand in your trailer. Only lobby for things that are consistent with  your own actions.

While I was observing the lunar eclipse I had a revelation. Even though Joe will the first to set a motorcycle record above 250 MPH he will still be remembered as the martyr for the side stand clic.

My foto only shows the left side of the fairing.
 If you have relocated your kick stand to the right side, I apologize.  By putting the kick stand on that side it would keep you from burning your foot if you forgot to kill the engine while the fairing was on fire.
 
 Was this a case case of annunciation instead of innovation?
 
 Does this mean I can't baby sit anymore?

The center stand removal was related to falling down in a bump while underway and based on experience. While I have never seen a center stand problem at Bonneville, the side stand has been forgotten and left down. The solution has been to keep it aboard the bike and plug it in as required. If you forget it, it should be designed to fall off before you do.

CORRECTION: The exhaust is on the right side. Keep the kickstand in the stock place. Doesn't require a retraining program for the pilot that way.

I think its a stupid rule,
 I dont think Noonan or others
 should take the kickstand off to
 run.......its STUPID

 have some retractable thing to prop bike up
 with, we didnt get it done in time
 
 I would like to be able to pull
 off course if fire as I have in past,
 with engine, fuel and electric off
 even though I am stupid, and it was nice to
 get off bike, avoid further warm skin ie BURNS
 and Ed was able to put out fire that amazingly
 burnt with all those things OFF, instead of laying bike on its side
 
 saying NO kickstand is dumb, having a kickstand
 that is fastened in the up position is fine,
 at end of course can disengage and use
 
 I have carried one on board and installed at
 end, it is a pain, and likely more potentially
 dangerous
 
 a kickstand coming down after going over a bump??
 that is less likely than an exhaust coming off
 
 who care about heritage, I just want to go
 faster.......
 
 kids are yours anytime  
 
 I am still lobbying for things that I think are

I never said a center stand fell off.
 I have seen a rider leave with the side stand down and fall off,and not just at Bonneville.
 I even saw a rider take off with the chin strap unbuckled. I am not just talking about my brother at Carlsbad or Larry "Rocket" Welch at Beachbend but this guy was an elder at Bonneville.

 Who was the starter for that run?

 A big part of the heritage for bikes at Bonneville is the safety record. Without it everybody suffers.

All modern bikes are wired in such a way that they cannot start and/ or proceed with the side stand down .It appears that technology has moved on and overcome these problems , but the rules have not ( progressed ) to take this into account , maybe one is bold enough to suggest that exceptions be made to those bikes that have this feature ( that functions ) , Jack D safety is important but at what point do we allow it to stifle inovation and progression to ever higher speeds ,tough question ,but lets call a spade a spade ,any type of racing/motorsport is intrinsically dangerous and each rider/driver particapates ,knowing the rick ,even after all "Reasonable" safety precautions are taken , I personally follow the line that it's my balls on the chopping block ,let me decide what is "reasonable safety"

 SCTA does not require sidestands removed........
 and the record is awesome
 
 
 now what kind of fool would leave with his
 chin strap unbuckled .....someone needs there
 "eyes" checked..........same guy would
 probably gash there head open trying to
 load/unload a bike........
