Eric Rickman
« on: January 21, 2009, 12:22:20 PM »
We have a pal that has had a serious health downturn recently. He had a major surgery and is in a care facility.

That man is Eric Rickman, the loooooooong time fotog for Hot Rod magazine. If you read Hot Rod, his fotos were

the window to the automotive world. Everyone of us has a favorite image he did, that we remember. I met him at Bonneville

in 1963 and our paths crossed many times.

I will post an address where we can mail cards to him and of all people he certainly deserves it.

We need to tell him THANKS in a HUGE way.

The cover of the June 1965 issue of HOT ROD Magazine showed Bill Burke dropping a Chrysler Hemi with a crank-driven blower into the engine bay of his latest creation, a Bonneville streamliner targeted for 300 mph. Photographer Eric Rickman captured the classic garage scene.

Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

Dean...THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Eric certainly did a lot to further hot rodding. He was not the first fotog with Peterson but he was the main one. He went to work for Peterson after he was in the Navy and was there about 40 years. The man before him was  having their processing done at a local drug store. That's the level at which Eric started and he dedicated himself to the magazine to a level hard to define.  It's a trip to have talked to him about his many adventures.

I'll have an address soon.

Great post, DEAN.

Well we are a day late. Now we send condolences. Eric passed on Saturday.

We can send our cards, and I hope it's a LOT OF THEM to his son.

Let's show a true tribute to this man. We all know what he contributed to our enjoyment.

While you are at it, Barrett suggested doing a Google of Eric Rickman.

He had an amazing ride.

The foto is son Michael and Eric at Gas Up.

I guess now that about all of the original HRM crew are gone. I mourn the passing of another hero and cherish the memories I have of the ones who have influenced and guided me through this incredible sport. RIP Rick, your contribution will never be forgotten.
