American road racing motorcycles from MotoCzysz
« on: January 11, 2009, 11:19:56 PM »

Portland, Oregon-based Ducati racer Michael Czysz ("sizz") is developing an American motorcycle that is an amazing accomplishment. Quoting an article about it by Sam Fleming, ""At first I think I was personally offended that someone had the audacity to challenge the conventional wisdom that only Italians and Japanese can build race bikes...As I read through it again I was still struck that many of the design ideas sounded brilliant. (A pair of) counter-rotating longitudinal crankshafts to improve handling, tuned-flex forks to reduce chatter and provide consistent fork action, a quick-access transmission, a long swingarm with constant chain tension. It is all the type of advanced thinking that we reveled in when John Britten was making his own carbon wheels in his backyard shed."

Forgot to mention that I heard of MotoCzysz when I saw a Discovery Channel documentary called Birth of a Racer about the development of the the bike. If I notice it being repeated I'll mention it here.

Czysz's bikes have been featured in Cycle World a couple of times in the past two years or so.  Nice work, good concepts, a tad (or three) beyond my needs...and not enough of 'em to race in production class.  There you have it.

During development they were working out of Freddie Spenser's place near my old shop @the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  I love the sound of the bike ripping around the outside road course.    :-D

yep those twin counter rotating crankshafts were just as innovative back in 1949 on the Ariel square 4 as the were on the moto jizz....Michael just hasn't sacked up to the fact he wasn't the one who came up with the idea..... kinda like Yamaha taking credit for the first mono shock rear suspension in 1974..... so i guess NSU just forgot to put a second shock on my 1952 max.....

Or Vincent in the late '40s.  The 'Bathing Suit' bike from the Rollie Free picture is the actual very first Vincent to have a single hydraulic shock for the rear frame.  That was 1948.

You can't go to your local NSU dealer and buy ANYTHING today.

Knowing NSU'S contributions to racing- Landspeed particularly, I hope you got a price comparable to the brand name's worth historically!

Kent - they bike looks great - but got one mistake - when they raced them in the 50's the metall work on the tank and on the shell was never so beautiful....it was very rough....may be Joe (Amo) can remember when I showed him the bikes last year in the NSU museum.......

By the way, the guy where I done my apprenticeship as a coach builder (before I study car design) was the guy who done all the body work (tank/shell) on this successful NSU race bikes.
