On 9-27-08 we lost a great friend and fellow racer, he was the BEST, he helped anyone with anything at anytime.  His name is Dave Owen and he will be missed by all that knew him and I am glad to have met him.

Seeing him at Bonneville during 2008 Speedweek was the tops, Dave was in awe of the salt and as usual was there helping out anyone who asked..simply put we lost a great man who will be missed by all.

Speaking your mind and airing your opinions are great, right up to the time you overstep your boundries, remember, thats why this thread started, I might have overstepped my boundries and someone called me on it, of course there are some that wouldnt apologize even if they knew they were in the wrong. It was just recently that I found that the taste of crow was not that great, so now I either try to not put my foot in my mouth so often, or be man enough to say Im sorry when I do. wink
(I hope Sum is proud of me trying to get along)

Rusty T----I don't wear the HERO hat very well, especially when its not earned---that sure as heck doesn't qualify in my book!!!!---so please don't try to put it on me---I was there for some of your issues & heard about others---

I had a run in with EL HEFE of my own; over something he jumped on me about ""and it wasn't about my UGLY car""---and I suggested that he go gather his facts and come back and discuss it with me calmly---in the mean time I was going to go about my business of getting ready to drive in as safe a manor as I knew how!!!

Glen,  Point well taken-

-RT---don't be so paranoid----I sure as heck wasn't trying to Slam you---hero is just a word I dont take lightly---its my problem---insprational OK--- you were wronged in my opinion and I so stated agreement.

-BUT---lets don't be so thin skinned---All SCTA members are volunteers and They suffer from the same human condition  we all do!!!

IF IT IS YOUR DREAM persue it untill you are succesfull---NO MATTER what anyone says---or it wasn't much of a dream!

if you get sent home---and I have been for just reasons---go home and fix the thing, as Stan Back says. Then take it to the next meet and see if all of the log book noted correction pass.

just a bit of advice---I always wrote all of the suggested changes in my log book myself---JUST so that I could PROVE that I was Listening and doing my best to get my car to their combined standards!!!!!

RT---hoping to see you on the SALT, at Sums, or at your place.

As an inspector for many years, but not one lately, if I had a question or the competitor had one he did not agree with we, together, went to the Chief inspector for the clarification.

Every year at Bonneville we inspectors met prior to the first car and the Chief no matter who it was said to get him if there was a problem. Each one always stated it was their problem to remedy. Some were more aggressive than others but all of them had a way of getting to the root of the problem and finding a way for the competitor to continue.

I do not know how everything happened with this thread but personally I have never went against any of the Leaders I worked for during inspection and usually to the initiative to get them involved...............Good Luck JD

if the tech inspector finds a problem he or someone will usually come up with a solution....this comment has been stated on here several times..... no one wants to send you home and everyone is usually helpfull in getting you on the course.... they even have a solution for a bad attitude...its called a red tag...... you can come back when you fix it yourself

OK
I guess some read all the way through, and some dont, For the last time, The car passed tech Speedweek and World Finals, it was after tech that, a single person took it upon his self to red tag the car for something he hadent even looked at, and after all of the hassel we went through, it came down to him having a personal problem with us . Its over now ,and I really would like to keep it that way.I spoke with his son and him and everything is cool now, so please, no more advice on how to act while going through tech, it was never a problem.Thanks,Phil.

JD & Kent---in my case  I was offered a solution on the salt---did part of it---then decided that it wasnt prudent to spend the money and time to do something that I knew I would have to redo before the next meet...so I chose to go home instead.

In inspection I have never been treated by an inspector other than as you two have outlined.---now twice I was refered to a committe that I was to meet with, AFTER I ran---in which I recieved some diverging opinions---theirs between each other and once or twice mine in which people were just insisting that it be done the way they would do it---with no refrence to rules---in each case I explained my disagreement as to design or technique to the Chief Inspector and they told me to do it the way I wanted to BUT it was subject to them signing off before final aproval.

Also I have had to do a controlled run before authorized to do an all out Pass, given the fact that the Ratical seem to enjoy wandering and exploring the width of the race course this was not unexpected.. I was asked to do this at Speedweek this year for I had completely reworked my car. I had NO problem with this be expected of me and my car---did a 200-225 pass and LK and AF  "signed off" on it and two days later were the first to congratulate me and Lee Kennedy gave me my first hat.

It later disapeared in inspection when LV and the Mayor "officially presented and welcomed me into the club.  I really wish I knew who got off with it---I would love to get it back, treasure it, and proudly display it.

I think in the future we are going to see stricter safety
enforcement of the M/C liners going through Tech. SCTA/BNI have already made some changes
and we can expect the same in the future from the BUB...........................................................................
