LSR on a Budget the USFRA 130 Club

OK new guy, you want to race on the salt but don't really have $30K to $50K to get started...  :| No problem  :-D  The World of Speed event September 16-19, 2009 may be just what you are looking for.  You can run your street car, drive it to the salt, race it, get time slips and drive it home.  Start here

http://www.saltflats.com/I30_Club_2009.html

You will find the rules, inspection sheet....
Time to start thinking and planning...
Will your car do 130 MPH, it is not as easy as you think
Good Luck, see ya on the salt

.........Will your car do 130 MPH, it is not as easy as you think............

How true

A couple things to make sure of:

Drive-shaft retention loop.

Fire Extinguisher mounted in driver compartment.

Ground tarp...

Read their rules as Stainless pointed out and they will work with you.  Great people........now if I only could of done the 130 ,

Even for the 130 / 150 mph racers there is still a lot to do before-during and after the event. There are lists provided elsewhere on the forum that goes into great detail. All of the information is from seasoned racers. Read it, copy it and paste to your tool box and get ready section you are packing.
You will still over look something. Enjoy the 1st time, it's a forever memory.

One consideration relating to budget is cost of the trip to Bonneville. This year, $4.00 a gallon gas, the trip in gas, entrance fees, hotels, meals cost about $3000.00 for a 2 man team from New York.  Not counting that I saved a few bucks as Dan Dunn (NRHS) put us up for 2 days in Denver.

This is the type of info I need. I'm trying to get a 130mph car together for this year. Thanks for making it more accessible!

Ask questions as required... there are several USFRA types on the site as well as previous 130 club racers.  Plan it to max about 145 in the mile, but it won't be like pavement, limited traction at the start.  So, with luck, you'll hit 130.

I think you've got it correct, Deb.  WoS doesn't usually "publish" the official inspection date -- but they traditionally have held inspections the day before the racing begins (as well as during the event, of course).
