So you are saying it's $1250 for the body and another $1000 to ship?  I was interested in getting one for a few minutes.

Ten years ago I bought a fiberglass car body, chassis with axles and suspension, transmission and assorted other parts that was shipped about half the distance this body is to be shipped (A little over 300 miles vs. 725.)  Total cost of shipping was $75.  It appears that most of his shipping costs are in having someone else crate the product.  If you are going to go into business building and selling you should handle crating yourself and not farm it out.  It will save the buyer a lot of money.   JMHO

For general information to the people who feel this shipping charge is expensive, it is not. Just last year I had a motor shipped from Ohio to California. Total weight was 650 lbs. Crate was 4'x4'x4'. I searched for the best price I could find and it was $650 with insurance and that was not delivered to my door, that was delivered to a terminal 10 miles away and I picked it up.

Now I agree the tank is much lighter, but it takes up much more room in the truck so the price goes up because of the girth measurements, Length x Width x Height. That plus paying labor and material to crate the tank,  so it does not get damaged in shipment, I personally don't feel this price is out of line.

Freight is charged either by actual weight or dimensional weight. Whichever is higher. Desotoman is correct about space onboard. This piece is car sized.

I'm about 8 hours from Indianapolis and Dayton is what, another hour or so?  i could drive over and save a ton on shipping costs.  I'll have to give this some serious thought.  How much lead time do you need to build one.  I wouldn't be ready to buy until late summer.

This Spring I got a Fed-X quote [thay were cheapest] to ship some pipe railing for my deck from Denton ,Tx. To Columbus, Mt. The quote was $1200. Since I have relatives there, I combined a vacation and the pick-up of the railing and drove there[with the $4.00 gas] and pulled a small trailer behind my Buick P/A . The material was banded on a pallet and was 10' long and about 24" in diameter. Weight about 900 lbs. Total trip cost less than $1000 and got to vacation and visit family at the same time. Just a thought. Doug

I'm the guy that has the pleasure of owning this site, and while I don't have any big problem with you listing stuff for sale -- I'd rather you move it to the "Items for Sale" part of the Forum.  Mostly to keep the others yahoos here from posting stuff for sale any old place they want.  And the For Sale section does work -- we've had quite a few items move through there.

Now, to shipping:  I've said this before, and it's worth repeating, I think:  When you've got something to move, try going to www.uship.com.  It's a site/company that's sort of like an eBay for shipping.  They've got a whole passel of regulars that drive big and little and in-between rigs and ship customers stuff.  When you go to the site you register, then list what you've got, where it is now and where it's going.  They'll ask you if open or enclosed trailer is required, if you've got a dock or not, and so on.  Some of the shippers include insurance, some don't.  There are ratings, just like for sellers and buyers on eBay - so you can investigate the folks that are bidding for your load.  They often give you a better price than you might get from a traditional trucking/shipping company - because the guy might already have a load from near where your stuff is to where your stuff is going, so he's already got the cost of fuel sorta covered by the first load.  He makes a buck then by giving you a good price and amortizing the fuel cost over two loads instead of just one.  And so on.  I've used them for a load or two, and investigated a few more times. 

As an example, a couple of weeks ago I listed the shipment of a complete motorcycle from near Richmond, VA, to Houston.  The quotes came in around $400-500 - with some way higher, of course.  Crating/placement on a skid was not required, by the way -- most of the bidders were familiar with moving bikes and so had various types of tie down apparatus available. 

No, I'm not in cahoots with uShip.com -- just know that they're a good way to ship for less than Yellow Freight or FedEx or whomever.

I guess I'd have to disagree with you Jon on this one.  Personal items for sale in the "for sale" section........great.......items that are sold as a business proposition where they have multiples for sale.......they should contact you about advertising on the site or it is not fair to the ones who are paying advertising rates.  Either you are in business for a profit and advertising is an expense or you aren't.

Yes, you're right as far as that goes, sorta, like maybe.  That is -- this fella comes out of the blue and posts a for sale item.  I'm not offended that he didn't ask permission first, and it didn't bother me that he didn't ask for a rate to post it.  I'll let him (as if I had that much to do about it) post this one, and maybe if he elects to try selling something again -- then I'll get a bit more hard-nosed about it.  Since I saw quite a bit of interest -- I'll keep in mind that this company might be a good candidate for spending money to advertise here, that's for sure.  I didn't want to come down too hard on a first-timer.  Someone that's been on the site for a good while -- yes, there I'll react a bit more aggressively, and thanks for reminding me that I have to keep everything fair and on the level -- not giving one guy one story and another a different line.
