1966 Triumph Bonneville land speed bike - 156.53 El Mirage 1978
« on: December 26, 2008, 07:17:49 PM »
Came across this Triumph tagged as running 156.53 at El Mirage in 1978. Any chance someone might know more about it?

Looks as though someone has taken good care of it and could be put back into race form quite easily.

It's usually a good sign when the bike pictures are shot in the livingroom! :-D

To heck with racing it - I say throw a peanut tank, lights and plates on it!

It's usually a good sign when the bike pictures are shot in the livingroom! :-D

That means it's not a Harley - or else they drained the crankcase before they brought it in.

GREAT........BUT would it pass today's Tech.???????

I had a set of similar front forks on our 350c.c.
Honda......I was told "we will let you run this time
but we don't like them"
So I put Honda 90c.c. forks on....... and everybody was HAPPY

We're in the process of trying to get this bad boy going again... It sat in a barn since the early 70's. In 1969 my gradfather went 9.80's on it in Houston texas. Started life as a Rocket 3 but grew to an 1175? stroker with the help of one of my grandfathers best friends Jack Wilson ( Big "d" triumph of Ft Worth TX).  These are Pics that My dad sent me when he went and picked it up a couple of months ago.

$5,369 and the reserve hasn't been met. Pretty pricey if you ask me. Bunch of people bidding on it.

Leak oil? Triumphs leak oil? Heck, I worked for a Triumph dealer and I walked through the parts department and saw oil on the ground. I realized the service manuals were leaking oil!!
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
