Also noticed that they make a 22 X 4.00 X 17 in  top fuel tire .

The tires mentioned by the esteemed Ms Buchta are the current Top Fuel fronts - easily available.

Part number  2404 as I recall . They are a HARD compound and I'd worry about being scolded by the Goodyear tire specialist for using them for sustained 300 mph speed.

Rex's project-another story.

Don't have the catalog number but that's probably the Super Comp/ Top Dragster /TAD front and it's also an off the shelf item and competitive to the ones built by Hoosier, Mickey Thompson, etc. for those Drag Race categories.

How about 2222?

That's what we run and we have had them over 288.

If you click on Sheri's second link and scroll down to the second page you will see the listing.  The are listed under Eagle Land Speed and are rated at 300mph

Are they readily available?  I've read here that sometimes tires are hard to come by.

When I ordered the 2222's (which Troy and John now have) I ordered them through summit and had them in about 5 weeks but that was in feb 07.Shelby still list them for sale. If I only get one meet out of the M/T's like this year, I may go back to 2222's.
John, I still want those wheels

bvillercr : Just wondering what is the approx. weight on your front and rear tires and overall car "wet" weight (with fuel and driver)? I am thinking of building a small convertable streamliner/lakester and hopefully will try to keep the weight and overall cross section and drag down. And by doing this i can use the narrow tires and still have good ground pressure and not run out of brakes. I know i will have some concerns for cross wind spins and i am working on that still.
Also do you use brakes on the front tires?

The weight of the car is 4800 lbs ready to run.  We run 35% front and 65% rear weight ratio.  Handles great and able to put down 2000hp to the ground.  We also run brakes on all four wheel, the fronts do most of the stopping.  good luck with your build.

I'm not sure what next years race plans will be (speedweek for sure) but we'll figure it out. Celia wants to go to Yosemite late winter/early spring so may be we'll cruise by one weekend and pick them up.
