I guess I should have made Glen work harder on his identification of Mary West.  When you go that far back there's not many options.

The Herbert - Steen liner shot is from 1991, one of the first years that car was on the salt.

More Herbert - Steen liner.  It's too big to get in one or two shots.  Monococque body, uses the Chevrolet big blocks as part of the structure.  With sixteen exhaust stacks on each side it was quite the sight to see it run.  The car always attracts a big crowd.  It had the top time of the meet at World of Speed one year with a 320 MPH plus run.

On the Herbert Steen liner, you can see the exhaust pipes pointing right in the field of the drivers vision. No wonder Vesco refused to drive again and Clayton had problems. I told Roy to fix that and some other cockpit issues or don't bring it back. He did some nice changes and they eventually ran in the 320+ range on the very last day of the last meet they were at, I don't remember what year it was but believe it was a WOS meet. I haven't seen them or talked to them in a while but at last count, the car was still in Steen's shop in Idaho Falls. That car was always scary to me to watch run.

The time that Vesco drove it, he told me that he heard something break but he didn't back out of it. What Steen wanted was to know what it would do and so he just decided to stand on it until it quit.
That car had a tremendous quarter mile time on one run. According to Marlo, it's the fastest ever in the quarter.
