Thanks, pal.  That helped a ton!

I'm headin out for the domain of the Lord of the Flies in a coupla hours.  I'll be doin updates as soon as practicable.  Ohh...and I have some weapons of mass fly destruction...I hope.  I sprayed the inside of my Burb with "flying insect killer" that's supposed to remain effective for 4 weeks (yeahrightsure), fly strips, fly swatters and electric hand-held insect zappers that look like small tennis rackets and take a coupla D cells.  Maybe I can amuse myself by keeping a "kill count" on my dashboard or something.  :)

The flies aren't nearly as bad as they were yesterday, I'm happy to report.  Maybe two or three where yesterday fifty or sixty were dive bombing us.  There are still a few of 'em out here -- but not so bad.  Come on down.

We just learned that our bike will be a few hours yet in arriving - maybe early this afternoon instead of now.  Ah, no use in complaining.  It'll arrive when it does.

Well, if the fly count is way down and stays that way, I guess we'll have plenty of stuff for the next plague.  Maybe you'd wanna keep summa the stuff in yer trailer for emergency defensive weapons.

See ya in a few hours.  Ohh...if ya see Jo Moch's blue Ferrari (I think it's a 458, but I'm not sure) and/or Van & Cathy Butler's bike/pits, could ya keep me in mind and note their location?  I need to contact 'em as soon as I get there.

Ray, the Two fellers involved with that lakester are Jeff Shipley of The JAZ saltwinder and Haas streamliners, And Don "the Beachcomber" Johnson of Top fuel dragster fame. Two legends for sure.......

Right Shipley, wrong Johnson.

That'll be the late HOWARD Johnson 1969 200 mph club member who lost a limb in a  Landracing accident.

Don't know that '60s Don the Beachcomber ever did the salt.

I thought Don "the Beachcomber" Johnson was a two club member from the class of '63? Tony

If you go back far enough, what we now call "Lakesters" were called "Streamliners". When fully enclosed cars began showing up the classes were separated.  But that was before Bonneville SpeedWeek started running.

IB, Better double check. I am pretty sure that is Don Johnson. I knew Howard Johnson also, and he looked nothing like the guy in the photo. I have also seen pictures of that car that say Don Johnson.

I also believe Howard Johnson was partnered up with Jeff Shipley on a different lakester later in the 60's-early 70's. That car was a front engined slingshot type car. It might be the same car of Jeff's that was still running in the 90's out of Wyoming under the banner of "Condor Racing". Their trailer was lettered on the side to read "Roofing, Racing and Raingutters".........  I wonder if Howard's son Lyle still has their lakester. It had a beauty shot in Howard Lepp's book from about 25 years ago.

Shoulda enlarged the photo. That plainly isn't Howard next to Jeff.

I stand corrected on the Johnsons
