The Quincy roadster did not have a roll bar at that time, many didn't. He sat just forward of the tub area. The picture isn't very clear to show it.I show a record for the Quincy car at 204 mph, Haven't found the Yeakle runs in 54 or 55.
Deffinately had to have some big balls to race at those speeds without a roll bar!

The Quincy Automotive type roadster is what I believe we were thinking of when the RMRs came back. And the Benham one. Take a look at this year's SpeedWeek program and see what happened.
As I remember, Quincy at one time ran a straight-up roadster in my favorite drag racing class -- A/Hot Roadster. Right, Interested?

Stan,
When the late Ron Benham approached me about a rear engine roadster class he claimed history. I told him if the cars had a 90" wheel base and rear swing axles he may have an opportunity. Ron was shocked, "those cars were unsafe" he stated. My response - Duh, in Homer Simpson's best style.
In a couple of years Ron had a set of rules, support of the roadster class guys and a car on the track to support his cause. A few short years later we have what we now have. A whole lot of problems and as of yet a good definition of a roadster.

In the photo of the Yeakel Bros. car with the Ford push truck, you can see the top of Tom Beatty's belly tank along with the infamous '40 Ford panel. Way cool. The green Ford pickup with F.G. Ferre on the side is a speed shop from Salt Lake that was very involved in local racing. They closed in the early 80's. I wonder who he was pushing.

Great information. I agree, looking at cars and push vehicles in the background is as much fun as the subject vehicle. I looked through the shots, and I don't see another photo with the FG Ferre truck. But, I did find another nice photo of Yeakel's roadster. I also took a quick glance through the program we have from 1955 and didn't find Ferre's name anywhere. Also, check out this old 'Vette...

No, I don't believe this is a Cord. I suspect it is a Graham from the same body panels. I never saw the engine. Again, early sixties..............
