3 million watts of power = 170mph in a streamliner?

That's 4,000 HP.  Even if it were only 10% efficient, that seems a bit conservative, since a 405hp production car will go 170mph.

The steam car is reported to be on its way stateside with all its attendant equipment.  It is in its transport container and left the UK this week to be in the USA for the 23rd June.

The respected weekly motor sport newspaper here in the UK - Motordport News - has reported that ratification will be by "he "World Record Academy" and "Guinness World Records".  Had to surf the net to find the former - actually World Records Academy based in Florida.  No mention this time of either the FIA or SCTA.

Edwards Airforce Base remains the preferred location (especially if they start running on 15th July) but there has been talk here in the UK amongst enthusiaists of Speedweek and Bonneville.  I do not know how that will work for them.

Test driver is Don Wales (the grandson of Sir Malcolm Campbell of Bluebird fame)

The team is on the lakebed at Edwards AFB.  From reports sent back by Don Wales they will have steam tests today and then if there hosts allow them onto the lakebed the running trilas will start the following day.

Temple's "Got'Cha"

This article states they will resume on August 17th, when " Officials from the Southern Timing Association will return from the Bonneville Speed Week."

Is SCTA involved with this attempt? Is Mike Cook involved with this attempt?  Are the Rice Brothers involved with this attempt?

"Got'Cha" was first run in 1974. Bill Temple entered both 2 clubs in 1976 with records in AA/BGR. At El Mirage 201.79 and Bonneville at 220.

In 1977 Greg Temple started driving "Got'Cha" and entered the El Mirage Dirty 2 club in 1979 @ 201.97. Greg went on to set two records at Bonneville, one in 1981 at 241.848, then in 1991 he set another record at 262.230

Bill and Greg were the first father and son to enter the El Mirage Dirty 2 club. They broke the D/BFR at Bonneville in 1981 @ 241 with top speed of 249. This record still stands today. In 1991 they set the A/BFR @ 262 which was later broke by Duane McKinney.

As far as I know this is a FIA event and Mike Cooks Land Speed Events is doing the timing, SCTA is not part of it, but we have seen this before when everyone seems to write that they are involved.

SCTA/BNI timer 1983 to 2004,Semi Retired,.

DiveEZ is correct it is not a SCTA event. Mike Cook was the interface between the Brits and the military at the base. The timing is contracted to the Rice bros. The others are over seeing the vehicle and working with FIA to assure the tea kettle meets the requirements.
