Oct meet planning thoughts
« on: October 22, 2008, 10:45:30 AM »
I have been watching the weather pretty close.  Things don't look good for Saturday.  I think I am going to change my driving plans to not bust a$$ to get down there for tech on Friday.  BTW, I am driving down from Wisconsin with a bike.  It's probably crazy to drive that far for 1 day of racing, but I have missed all the other meets this year and can't wait until spring!

Anyone else's plans changing?

Jeff

Anytime it looks like it might be a heavy condensation meet Deb and I bring the things that we can do in the trailer... be it wrenching, computerizing, logisticalizing or simple old bs'ing with friends.

A rainy day with friends at the track beats a sunny day alone at the shop (most of the time anyway).

Look forward to seeing you back with that screaming vtwin Jeff.

My first and only run so far with ECTA was in June and I didn't get much socializing in since I had a buddy visit for most of that Saturday.  I am looking forward to going solo this time so I can chat with more folks and get an idea about what I might want to do/run next season.  A little down time won't bother me too much.  Hiding in the miata in the rain isn't fun so I will be scrounging around for some cover and chat.  Also hope to catch up with some of the folks Saturday night this time around though not sure the Pine Acres pool will be the location this time of year!.

I did notice the weather now only shows rain during saturday day and not night so maybe it will be a quick storm front!  Maybe we can get a helicopter to dry the track!

Wouldn't take long, the track dries up fast on its own.  And as someone once told me, forecasts for Maxton may or may not apply to the track, weather down there can change within 5 miles.

Had some Blackhawks dry a parade field when I was in the army, well more like push the water to the sides where guys with 5 gallon buckets scooped up the water and put it in 50 gallon trash cans to be hauled to the storm drains.  Tax dollars at work.

We've never had a total wash out.. and we've had some decent storms roll thru.

A continuos parade of 25 pit cars and push trucks will dry that old concrete sponge out in no time.... and we're back to racing before most venues get themselves dried off with a towel.

And if there is down time on the track, then it's a opportunity to share a wrench and a story with new friends or old.

I have a feeling we may get some runs in on Saturday (the glass is half full, not half empty,,, optimism is the key)  We should also get 6 or more hours in on Sunday...If there is down time on Saturday and Sunday is dry as expected, what are the chances of running an hour or so longer ?

Thanks for my new background picture Todd. That low cloud looks cool.
What's with the torpedo on top of the white car. looks like a streamliner project. But then again everything to me looks like a streamliner project. I have landracing glasses on all the time.
Thank you to all the volunteers

Charles,
The extra hours on Sunday gig is the powers that be's call. It has been done before but it is a case by case basis.

The "torpedo" is Al "the bomb" aka our starter! That's a drop tank on his car that he bought way back when. I think he's waiting for his boys to get older so they can collectively turn it into some kind of LSR race vehicle!

Nancy and I are in the pickup headed south on I-77 (she's driving, I'm typing) in northern W. VA.  We will arrive in Lauringburg late this afternoon.  It's a first for us -- we've got THREE race bikes in the trailer.  Only two are runners, but still -- two's beter than none.  I just looked at the forecast and sure enough, we should make some runs Saturday and more on Sunday. Good.

We'll see you tomorrow, folks.

I would say that last year we came as close to a rain out as possible without calling it a rain out.  Rained cats and dogs all day Saturday and cleared Sunday with a 14 knot head wind. A sunny couple of days at work was preferable to that weekend.
