Looking at the rules it doesn't seem like mufflers are required for most classes, and I know a straight exhaust on a race motor can get very loud; beyond permanent hearing damage loud.  Is there a limit to the noise level at Bonneville?  Or do we all just bring plenty of hearing protection.

What about El Mirage, since I'm already posting...

With all the wide open spaces at both Bonneville and El Mirage, the sound dissipates quickly, to me, it is music, I love it when someone starts up some big fuel motor first thing in the morning!!! cheers

The only better than the smell of a big load of nitro is the sounds of the motor as it is burning it. cheers

Half the fun of spectating is the sounds. Hearing the Burkland 'liner go by at 400+ is awsome. cheers

Bak189

I know it has been a couple of days since your question about BUB, not sure if you have got an answer yet....

In spite of the riders behind me in staging telling me my two-stroke was awefully loud, there didn't seem to be any noise restrictions or limits imposed by the organizers.

Mufflers have been required by some sanctioning bodies to keep the neighbors happy. Having a race track in an urban environment is tough. Frequently the track is built in the boonies and the houses show up later.

San Fernando drag strip, Lions, Irwindale all had noise problems. I'm surprised Pomona still has the Winternationals and Auto Club Finals. Even with late start times and early shutdown. There are very expensive homes all around the track.

As a kid I could hear San Fernando from 4 miles away on Sunday morning.

Bonneville and El Mirage certainly don't have anyone living close.

Maxton is rural, but only about 3 miles from town as the noise flies.

It only takes one politically well connected #*$@&$ to screw things up.

Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.

grin The sound of an open exhaust is music to my ears. Like all music, some people like it...some people don't. Music can be turned down but you lose the richness of the sound and the fullness of the beat. Offer those individuals that can't appreciate good music (open exhaust) hearing protection, i.e. ear plugs.  wink

Terry (keep it loud)  cheers

Well if it's too loud in the driver's seat, you're not going fast enough! grin

I have hearing aids in both ears from a career in powersports, and I would not change one decible of it!! I hate noise regulations (even though I understand why we need them at moto x tracks in neighborhoods etc.)  Landspeed Racing, man I sure hope not !! Let er rip I say!!
