That was my lesson I learned. I had heard about fire ants but I thought you would have to be accidentally sitting by them , or standing on a nest to get bit. Now I learned the hard way you can just walk through the grass & the little bastards will all but bite through your freaking shoes! This was my first time at Maxton & loved it, great people in the ECTA & friendly, helpful racers but next time I'll bring my flamethrower for my little friends.  Bob 8-)

Let's hope for good cool, DRY weather and a record turn out.... My darn transmission pan gasket is leaking. Gotta change it out and double check all my brake and suspension bolts then I will be ready for the end of the month.

See you all in 2 weeks

My stay at the Scotland Inn was terrible, too.  Never again.

What really works on fire ants is any product containing Fipronil (sp?).  Spread it around your pits when you first get there, as it takes a while to work - but it kicks ant butt.  The brand I use at home is "Maxx", but there are others.  They are devils - I'm still healing from my September bites.

We've really enjoyed all you new folks - hope you keep coming.

Re: Laurinburg Lodging - Pine Acres Avaialability - Phone Coverage?

Has anyone contacted Pine Acres recently to see if rooms are still available during the meet?  I am having 'difficulty' reaching them via either of the phone numbers in the back of the rule book.  No big deal as I can splurge on the Jameson if I have too but figured more social opportunities were likely at Pine Acres since I am solo this event.

I called the Pine Acres yesterday (Monday) and was told they're full.  No offer to put me on a "waiting list".  So I called one of the other places in town - one that we've also stayed in, and got a room with no hassles - and a "racer" discount price, too.  I forget -- think it was about $40-45 or so for each of the three nights we'll be in town.

I enjoy staying at PA because so many of the racers stay there - it makes visiting easier, and the Saturday night picnics by the pool or in the parking lot are easy to attend if your room is right there.  But, alas, not this time.

See you next week, boys and girls.
