Above he says ..."Car is currently geared for 216mph with a 23.7 inch tall tire."...

Me thinks there something more than Mug Rootbeer in that can.

Gotta go with Kent, Dan and Glen at this point.

Get yourself a rule book, keep it by your bedpost, read it every night, highlight it, put post-it notes for book marks in it, and start a spiral notebook check-off list as you go.  And when the new rule book comes out, check it against the one you've been studying and note any changes.

G/PS looks like a class you could run in, provided you leave the body stock and move to racing gas.  To run, your car will need to meet the requirements of that class.  Off of the top of my head, aside from the cage, you'll need roof rails, 1 inch lug nuts and racing approved tires, and that's just because the record in the class is over 200 mph.

I am curious, though, as to how you calculated your 216 mph gearing.  You'd be looking at peak power at about 8,500 RPM, assuming a 3.50 dif and .80 OD, and that's going to take a helluvalotta Mitsumotor.  While the air is thin at Bonneville, it's still thick enough to provide resistance.  I'm not trying to scare you, but it's going to take some $eriou$ engine work to make that happen.

Don't let details stop you if you're looking for fun and time slips - but do keep in mind that ignoring the rules will prevent you from having either.

I also forgot to say. That is the beauty of a mitsubishi engine. It does not take serious engine work to make some magic happen. In the right hands, they will do great things.

As far as the fuel goes, as long as it is around, this car will not run on anything but E85. That is another reason I am not worried about classes and records. I know you have to run event fuel to achieve that. And that is not even close to the same type of fuel or tune, so I will bring plenty with me for any events outside of colorado.

Congrats on your project!  Those MSA guys can steer you in the right direction safety-wise.  You may, however, find yourself re-evaluating whether or not its a 200+mph car "easy"...lol

Good luck with your endeavor

Power wise, it has it. As far as bad work and financing, that won't be easy.

How much power do you think you will or are getting out of it?

Hard to say. Never been on the dyno. 5880ft, 2300lb with driver and 115-120mph traps all day.

Ah - ha!  I think I understand a little of the cornfusion.  The "short 1-mile course" during WoS is the 130 MPH Club course, and the safety requirements there are vastly different from those of the "short course" (which is 3 miles plus shut down).  There IS a difference.

Well, that explains a lot. You are not interested in a record and are satisfied with running 130MPH exihibtion runs(not much of a show for me - but, thats just me). The "geared for 216" is two mph too short of G/PS anyway.

You need not be concerned with class compliance if you are on the 130 course, no class records there. Won't meet MS rules anyhow.

Good luck,
DW

You will need about 500 WHP to go 216.

Go for it.

Oh no. The 130 club would be WAY boring. My comment was that it would take minimal effort to at least run there. I gathered someone thought there was no way this thing could even turn off the land's end.

The car will be assembled to PS specs. But won't compete. At least not for some time. This car will see texas before it sees the salt. I know the boys in the yellow galant ran 218. But between them, car 4663 and Mike's Evo II running in ECTA I kinda don't stand a chance. Mike is building another car for G/PS and the galant is looking to go faster next year. All I would be satisfied with would be a 200.0000. Anything above that, be it pavement or salt would just be a bonus.

A timeslip is all I need. At this point in my life, doing 200 on pavement would mean more than a long run at it on the salt.

The HP figure is not a concern. And to make sure I have every chance of doing my goal, I am going to streamline from the start. Thus putting me out of the Production class. The Modified Sports class is even higher, and I would not feel comfortable and risk anything trying to do 240mph+.
