IT is as close to a repeatable "Spiritual Experience" that I have ever had---especially if you are in Impound and you are going out as the Eastern sky is just turing Grey!!!!!
Miss LIBERTY,  changing T.K.I.  to noise, dust, rust, BLUE HATS & hopefully not scrap!!

just as the sun's coming up,it's crisp, a relief from the usual heat and of course you're a little bit sunburnt, people walking around slowly uncovering their pit and gear, creeping, hair everywhere( Ben James eating corn and peas straight out of the tin with a fork for his breakfast...),bloodshot eyes , you almost feel the necessity to whisper, everybody is happy, hiya howsitgoin's , a laugh here and there, there is a huge sense of expectation and camaraderie....then the first motor gets turned over ...the silence is broken..... then another , then people are getting down to work..........I wish I was there, right now.

here's a long shadow shot of Nigel Begg's SR500

We have to agree that its nearly a Religious experience to be on the salt for the morning sun rise. And yes the sun sets ar'nt too shabby eather.
Next to all the great people you meet there, nature takes the cake. We actually look forward to it all year.
Thanks for all the great pictures you post .

None of us got the memo, beer is better in bottles....   although when you set them on the salt in the sun they get warm...  :|
I think that must be a rule when the water is deep enough to swim in, that was not a problem until World Finals.

BTW, just got my check back from the scta

Nice Pics, we have sunrise pics from every impound day, those are the only ones we make it to the salt that early, when we are there at sunset, we are usually too busy to take pictures...

The early morning/sunrise shots have always been my favorite. Here are a few from the Shootout:

Prepping the bike in the wee morning hours.

On the trailer and ready to rock before sunrise.

Staged at the "0" waiting for the sun to come up.

Seems like everyone's got the same idea!

For all the acclaim the sunrises get, the sunsets can be spectacular also. Fewer people see the sunsets than in the past. Years ago the runs continued until the last ray of sunshine disappeared behind the mountain. Everyone stayed for those late evening passes because that was the time of the giants.
With earlier shutdown most people have left before the sun's evening canvas is colored.
It's worth the wait if there are any clouds.

I can't recall any year (that we raced)  not seeing the sun set, or getting kicked off the salt by patrol.  I guess we just get stuck in the pits with tall boots on and enjoy the sodas.
